Setup;

Box 1; 2k tower
Box 2; XP Pro Laptop

Both with same username & password
Both have drives set for shareing
No firewall

2k machine can see the XP Laptop, but only the name of the computer. It sees' no drive leters.
XP Laptop can see the 2k tower AND the drives.
BOTH access the internet ok.

Router/Gateway; Westell VersaLink 327W (wireless DSL modem/router).

When I click on the computer name under 'Computers Near Me' it returns;
"***** is not accessible. Access is denied".

Yep installing netbuei will fix this in a minute
Two do not share entire drives - share only a few folders

the fact that it says access denied tells me it is a permissioning issue, not a protocol issue

I would suggest disabling Simple File Sharing on the XP machine if its on and try again.

To do this you go to the tools menu in any explorer window, select folder options, select the view tab, and go to the option at the bottom.

I never use the network view, it is complete and utter ****** in my experience, typing in the computer's given name(Resolved by DHCP client name in router) or IP(if static) is much more reliable.
