2k emulation in XP?

How can I fool a program into thinking that my WinXP OS is actually Win2k? The drivers Microsoft provided with WinXP for my Compaq laptop's ATI Rage Mobility video chipset are terrible and unacceptable. All 3D games have texture alignment glitches and everything is so dark you can't see ANYTHING. Anyway, there are no generic drivers for mobile video chipsets. ATI expects the computer manufacturers to provide their own custmized versions. The lazy asses at Compaq don't want to create acceptable WinXP drivers, they actually suggest that I keep using the crap default drivers provided by MS! Anyway, I downloaded their Win2k drivers from the website becuause I know that they should work fine with WinXP, but the Compaq utility will NOT extract the drivers becuase it detects that I have a different operating system. There must be a program or utility somewhere that will let me 'fool' it or run it in a protected environment so that it thinks it is on a Win2k machine. Anyone ever heard of such a thing? If not, i may need to send the file to someone with Win2k and have them extract it for me 🙂

Oh and YES, I have tried running in compatibility mode under the file properties. It still detects that it is running under Windows XP.

right-click it, choose properties, on the Compatibility tab, check the "run this program in compatibility mode for:" and choose win2k.
if that doesn't work... try opening the program in winzip / winrar and see if you can pull the actual files out. if there are .inf files, right-click, choose install, and hope it works (or use the add hardware wizard and point it to the directory)

I (his brother) could have told him that but I guess he didn't wanna ask me 😛
BTW: It uses Compaq's own "BIOS Lock" installer that WinZip can't access like Installshield & MS Installer files... 🙁

(another edit)
Why makes my dumbass brother think that I hadn't already tried that?!
Compatibility mode does NOT work, it still detects the operating system as Windows XP and will not let me install.

If it's a self extractor file, try right clicking on it and Extract to (if you have a program like Winzip or Winrar) to extract it.

BTW: Compat mode didn't help 🙁 "You are running Windows XP" blah blah blah...
It doesn't look like it launches a seperate app, even though it's a few "Next" clicks in before the msg...

It didn't extract to any temp folders either, though I see a folder called "sptemp" with ATI stuff in it, though that may be something my brother was messing with because it's on the drive's root & wasn't deleted on exit.

(original-post-guy)
My dumbass brother didn't think I already tried that!? Bah!
Compatability mode does NOT work.
