I feel like a newbie just asking this but where the heck is the boot.ini file? I saw it once and can't find it... Man I feel I'm setting myself back 10 steps on the newbie scale just asking this. There goes my self-esteem. 🙂
 
Open notepad and have it open C:\boot.ini. It's likely a hidden system file, which means you'd have to uncheck *TWO* checkboxes in the Explorer configuration.

Har.... I can open it via run.. c:\boot.ini but I don't see it in explorer, and I've got it set to view all, can't see it at the prompt either.
 
Under Tools --> Folder Options --> View, un-check "Hide protected operating system files"
This should enable you to see ALL files including 'boot.ini'.
