Hey Folks,

This is my first time back on the forums in just over a year. Work and life sometimes gets in the way and I hope to contribute more to the talk here again. I still know my way around everything but am out of the loop a tad in the past year.

I have a simple question that I'd like some feedback on. I'm sure it's probably been beat to death around here....but here goes.

2GB vs 3GB in a Notebook running Windows 7 x32.... Will I see any difference?

I use this notebook as my daily web browser. Its used 95% of the time for Web Browsing and Live Messenger at home on Wifi. It's basically a desktop replacement to save space for browsing.

The laptop came with 3GB of ram. Its about 1.5 yrs old now. Just recently (3 days ago) the 2gb stick died in it. I had a 1GB stick laying around, so I've gone from 3GB to 2GB.

I don't notice any difference so far, but me being the geek I am, I'd like to go to 3GB, maybe even 4GB (if 4 I'd reload with x64 since I have retail version). Due to Christmas I really don't have the money.

Is 2 GB going to be all I need in my situation? I'd like to get another 1-2+ yrs out of this notebook for browsing using Windows 7. I think the answer is yes, but my head says go upgrade the Ram even though I can't afford too right now :).

1) 2gb will be fine.. i have ran it on 512mb just fine(win 7 32bit that is.)

2) if you dont have the money, why even tease yourself with the idea. Yes ram is dirt cheap now, but that doesnt mean you should waste the few bucks you got on a useless upgrade.

3) if you are concerned, press ctrl alt del and see how much ram is being used. if you're close to the cap, consider upgrading. my guess is you'll be around 1gb of used ram; thus you dont need to upgrade.

Currently using 844MB of Ram with Weathereye, MSN, Adobe Reader, Google Chrome and IE 8 opened.

Yeah I was hoping somebody talked me into buying it here haha.

I knew the answer I guess before posting. I'm sure 2GB will serve me well in the next 1-2 yrs for what I do with it.

Thanks for helping me be rational.
