2GB PC4000, Ballistix Tracer vs 0CZ Platinum EB
Long time listner first time caller. I'm kind of in a hurry on this one as my computer is totally dead in the water right now since my only set of DDR is in for RMA. I'm writing this from work (of course i'm on lunch break  ).
I had a 1GB 2x512MB stick set of the 0CZ Gold VX PC4000. One stick went bad. So Newegg doesn't carry that. So i'm going to upgrade to a 2GB set (I have a 3200+ Venice). So any opinions on which one i should go with excluding the Crucial vs 0CZ vs brand x debate, in general. I'm a pretty firm believer that at a certain level quality is pretty much the same and every now again your going to get BAD sticks. The other question would be what the difference between the Ballistix and the Ballistix tracer. Sorry if this is answered somewhere else. Thanks in advance.

From what I've heard the OCZ is very popular but I think the Crucial looks cooler lol. I'd say the OCZ will outperform the Crusial though.

WHAT????

OCZ EB Plat. DDR500>Mushkin XP4000>Crucial Ballistix

^^thats the way it should be 😉

(because I got the OCZ stuff)

so, if you were to get a 2 sticks from that newegg link.... how would you get them to work in dual channel as good as a matched pair?

You install them. Done.

But ignoring my last post, it really doesn't matter which one (of the three) that you get. They all you the same Inferion DDR333 CH-5/6 Sever class Ram. Amazing they made this stuff go so fast at such tight timings. Take that Samsung and your TCCD memory. <-Thats right, right??? becasue I really have no idea what I'm talking about

how do you install RAM?

And will I be able to store all my MP3's on them?

..... lol.

Ok thanks for the opinions. I am interested in overclocking them at least to 265 thats why i'm trying to at least get pc4000 ddr500 instead of the ddr 400. I'm not sure how far i can take the venice yet, but i would like to try and it seemed like the ballistix and the ocz were the ones that got the highest overclocks 290-300Mhz. Am i right in thinking that the Tracer variation is just Ballistix with an led party. Insanetek had a review on the regular Ballistix. http://www.insanetek.com/review.php?id=19 . And yes I know my mileage may vary.

All the reviews I read said that the Ballistix is one of the best OCing memory out to date. All their memory performs insanely well for the price and their old pc3200 stuff outperformed the Mushkin memory in many tests. Crucial has got my business from now on without a doubt.

Ok so now all you b@$7@rd5 (in a good way of course) have me rethinking this. Now i'm thinking between the crucial ballistix and the mushkin. http://www.mushkin.com/doc/products/memory_detail.asp?ID=245 vs http://www.crucial.com/store/partspecs.Asp?IMODULE=BL2KIT12864L503
Top end is pretty important but then again in all the old reviews of the venice it looks like it tops out at 2.7 to 2.8 Ghz on air(they were also all tested with pc3200 (why didn't they just call it it pc5000 for ddr500 and pc4000 for ddr400 🙁 )). So now i'm pretty much just overthinking everthing.

any of the other memory modules hit 300MHz w/ 3-4-4-8 for that price range?

My OCZ is at 260mhz at 3-3-2-8 and can probably do it till 275mhz. With the Inferion chips (if thats what were still talking about) voltage doesn't mean squat. You can pump 2.7 volts or 3.2 volts into the ram, it will all perform the same (and overclock the same) (mine is at 2.8). Just putting that out there.
