2gb or 4gb Memory Upgrade?

I've been out of the hardware scene for a while, but I'm looking to upgrade my RAM to either 2gb or 4gb. I only do web surfing, word processing (office machine), the occasional photos/graphics. I have multiple programs running at once.

I have a 1.8 C2D with 1GB of DDR1. With the falling RAM prices, I guess I should upgrade now. My mobo has 4 slots total (2 for DDR1, 2 for DD2). I believe that Windows XP only recognizes up to 3 gb.

Should I spend the money and get 4gb? Or just 2?

Depends on your OS. It's true that RAM is so cheap that there is little reason not to go with 4GB, but for any reason if you want/need to make a choice, the first consideration is what OS you'll be using. Said that, my choic would be XP=2GB, Vista=4GB.
