2gb or 2.5gb of ram?

Right now I have 2gb of patriot on my asrock dual 939 board. I have a stick of kingstone hyper X 512MB laying around. How would adding this stick affect my performance? Would it hurt it?
 
2.5 gigs over 2 gigs is just to the point where you are not even going to notice as much if anything if you are a typical user

Don't do that!!! it wouldn't make any sense at all, plus if you are running dual channell you will then lose that.
