Great green grasshoppers!!

I bought 50 megs of Yahoo! mail extra storage about a week or so ago. I woke up to check my email this morning and found this:

Your Extra Storage service is now
Yahoo! Mail Plus ? at an even lower price!

Thanks for being a loyal Yahoo! Mail user. To show our appreciation, we've expanded your Extra Storage service to include all the benefits of Yahoo! Mail Plus ? at no additional cost*!

Here are just a few of the things you'll love about Yahoo! Mail Plus:
Virtually unlimited storage
A whopping 2GB means you should never have to worry about managing storage again! Keep thousands of messages, photos, and documents ? think of it as your online archive.
Virus cleaning from Norton AntiVirus?
This powerful tool helps protect you from dangerous viruses.
SpamGuard Plus
Our personalized spam filtering system learns what you consider spam and diverts it to your Bulk folder ? so you can focus on the messages that matter.
No graphical ads
When you're using the Yahoo! Mail web interface, your experience will be even more enjoyable.
POP Access and Forwarding
For anytime access, download your Yahoo! Mail using your desktop email application (e.g., Outlook Express?) and view it offline.
And much more!
Thanks for using Yahoo! Mail, and we hope you enjoy the additional features now at your fingertips. For more information on your service change or on how to cancel, please visit our Help page.

*Your Yahoo! Mail Plus service will automatically renew each year on the anniversary of the date you first purchased Yahoo! Mail Extra Storage, at the then-current rate for Yahoo! Mail Plus, unless you cancel before that date. If you cancel, your Yahoo! Mail Plus service will be discontinued immediately, and you will receive a pro-rated refund for the remainder of your current billing cycle. All fees are charged in U.S. dollars. You will receive notice and further instructions via email near the end of your billing cycle.

Hahahaha, deal of the year! I'm not exactly sure how you'd go about getting it, because I only paid for 50 megs and then got this today, but I thought I'd share 🙂

I still can't understand why they gave us 100 mb... we had 5 before... why up it for free?

Who cares? It's FREENESS!!! 😀

They're probably trying to 'compete' with Google's 1gb Gmail.

My other thought was that maybe they were putting in new hard drives or something, and since new hard drives = more space, they can afford to bump it up a bit. Ehhh maybe that's a big far fetched 😉

Competition is great! 🙂

UPDATE:

Yahoo! mail (and associated websites) is going mad slow this morning, probably because of all the changes and people logging in to see the new fun stuff. It says this at the login page:

Mail Plus offers tougher virus and spam protection, a virtually unlimited 2GB of storage, no graphical ads, and more for only $19.99/year.

Not bad...plus, new free Yahoo! mail accounts are 100 megs. Still a good deal if you don't want to fork over $20/year. I think it's worth it...that's why I bought 50 megs initially (coming from a free account)...I like their webmail system.

Good luck getting in! 🙂

For those who are already SBC/Yahoo DSL customers, the main accounts are upgraded to 2gb of storage,
and sub-accounts are upgraded as well, to 100mb.

* Increased email storage for Master to 2GB (gigabyte) and Sub accounts to 100MB (megabyte)
* Increased number of attachments per email (50)
* Removal of most ads on the user interface (UI)
* Message views updated

If you are also an SBC Yahoo! Mail Extra Storage subscriber, the price of extra storage is dropping to $9.99
a year for 2GB of storage.

Is Yahoo going to add some sort of search option in? I know Gmail will have it where you can search your emails to find what you're looking for. Even with thr 6 megs I had before on yahoo, I found it a hellish ordeal to try and track down an email. but 100 free megs is pretty nice 🙂

seems weak compared to gmail. which is faaast and the searching is really nice and intuitive. of course that's all academic seeing as how regular users can't use gmail yet. soon I think though.

just checked my sbc yahoo dsl mail hehe, a full 2 gigabytes! Now how in the world could you ever even use close to that! Maybe if you signed up for every mailing list on the internet 😉 welcome spammers

SOme people rely on yahoo mail to be reliable!

the press should do a followup article on this, not just the positive
'yahoo up mail storage to compete blah blah blah'

Can I use pop3 with Yahoo? How can I use Outlook with Yahoo mail? Or do they still only allow access thru the web.

That's why I like Hotmail - I can download it to my laptop and view later and save copies.

a) use a program like yahoopops
b) buy their premium service (19.99/year) which gives pop access + 2gb space.
