Currently have 1gb and am thinking about going 2gb and selling my current memory. Not sure if its worth going to 2gb of DDR this late in the game with newer DDR2 boards and memory prices going up. If I don't go to 2gb I am gonna upgrade to C2D and DDR2 in Feb if things go right. If I do go 2gb I probably won't upgrade till around this time next year or untill my system really starts to struggle in games. I have a 3800+ x2 in the mail which I plan on o/cing.

Pretty much would it be a bad move at this point?

X2's really do better with 2GB's. I would just bite the bullet, and get 2x1GB sticks.

Do you actually use your current 1GB to its limit? If not then there is no need. Monitor your actual usage and then decide if you need it or can wait.

have you priced 2x1GB kits of DDR these days? they are almost 50% more expensive than they were 6 months ago across the board. Unless you are totally desperate for memory it is probably not worth the prohibitive cost of getting a good 2x1GB kit right now. wait it out. if prices drop, then you can consider upgrading then, and if not, you will be thinking about Conroe or K8L before you know it...

I seen some for $150 shipped not high end though. Which is the reason I was considering it. Was hoping I could get $75-$80 out of my OCZ Gold.

It's not that you can't get DDR ram nowadays, it is just that you have to pay a premium fo rit. OCZ platinum kits that cost $190 in March now list for $290, and even G.skill kits that were $170 are now up close to $250.

why pay a premium for components now if there is no truly pressing need? Better off saving the money or spending it on components without such an artificially inflated price...

The only difference I noticed between 1gb and 2gb was that BF2 maps loaded MUCH faster. Seriously every other game and Windows apps performance seemed the same to me.

If you really need 2GB, then get them (2 - 1GB sticks).

I got some on eBay for a client-friend for a super price because he needed them.
Heavy gaming or application work would require upgrade, but that's your choice.

I agree.

no reason to bite the bullet if he is only using 750MB...op you need to find out how much ram you are currently using then go from there, noboday can tell you if it will benefit you since you have not stated how much ram you currently use. if you are only using 750MB then you could have 3GB and have the same performance you currently do.

If you game or use something that needs alot of ram its worth it. I just went from 1 to 2 and everything is much smoother meaning that theres no sudden loading jerks etc.
