2GB memory is very important for BF2

Couldn't believe how big the differences are!

Spec before:
FX-55
6800GT SLI
1GB OCZ PC-4000VX
Highest Settings 1280x1024 no AA

Spec now:
4400+
x800xl
2GB OCZ Platinum
Highest Settings 1600x1200 2x AA

Before the game was acceptably smooth and get really choppy at occationally.
Now the game is BUTTER SMOOTH! I mean really really smooth!!
Ordered an eVGA 7800 KO and I seriously don't believe it can improve in anyway at the same settings.

P.S. No! x800xl is not perfect, it's 100% smooth in maps like Karkand, but it start to get a little laggy on 64p Clean Sweep. Guess that a 7800GTX is needed.

Yeah, that's what I've been reading left and right on various forums. I just ordered another gig from newegg. Not specifically for BF2, but it'll be nice nonetheless. :D

You're not comparing apples to apples. You have a completely different computer. Not only that, but recently there have been improvements server-side and with punkbuster.

To do a proper comparison, test the same setup with 2 Gigs, and again with 1 Gig. Then post the results.

I used to get massive stuttering with 1 gig everything on high with my x850xt but, since cat 5.8 I can run on high with no stuttering.

Only thing is that in the start of the round its kind of stutters for 20 seconds then stops.

I personally think that 1.5GB would do just as well since BF2 takes approx 800-1200mb.
However, a lot of us here have a s939 or P4 system which benifit from match pair of memory, therefore not many of us have a 1.5GB system.

As compared to what? Why do you think it is junk? Honestly, it's the best shooter to hit the market in years if you can run it decently. Nice post though, great analysis.

I wouldn't go that far. There are far better shooters out (HL2, Far Cry, D3) but Battlefield 2 is spectacular improvement over BF1942, which I was an absolute adoring fan of. It's first in its class, and pretty high up on the top FPS list.

Find me another game where you can use an F-15E and blow the hell out of terrorists trying to storm your base :p

 Go away.

Edit: Yeah, I know my argument isn't strong either but I stand by it. :D

<<<1gb OCZ memory w/ 6600GT. Is super choppy for the first 5-10 seconds, then smooths out nicely. Average fps 35 on 1280x1024 8xaf all settings on high. Cheers

EDIT: shadows set to low...

1.5Ghz? Rofl?

He no doubt means 1.5MB.

Or 1.5Kb.

Truthfully, I did notice a rather large difference between 1GB and 2GB of RAM in the game. I don't have any stutter or lag at all when it firsts boots or I go into a server, and for the most part, my user experience has been nothing if not excellent. The game has bugs, short comings, and other such annoyances, but when taken for what it is, it is a pretty fun game (Minus all the damn TK stuff, which is just annoying as hell).

He actually meant 1.5 bytes.

Anyway, I even noticed a big difference form 1GB to 2GB on BF1942's Forgotten Hope mod. So, 2GB will be really important for future BF2 mods like Forgotten Hope 2 or the new Desert Combat for BF2. Mods almost always require more than the original game.

Hell, the only MOD I hope for is a blood/gore mod. I mean, I don't want "ludicrous gibs" a la "Rise of the Triad" (old skool fun!), but I'd like something a little real rather than an intact corpse flying 3000ft into the air after an artillery strike.
