2GB Dual Channel on nForce4???

Is there anyone running with this configuration? I am wondering if I should go 4x512mb or 2x1024mb. Any suggestions?

I suggest going w/ two 1024 mb dimms. If you read the forums here, you will find that most 64 bit amd mobos/processors have difficulty running 4 dimms at the proper speed-they tend to underclock the dimms so pc3200 acts like pc2700 and sometimes the motherboard won't let you clock them back up. With only two dimms most of these problems go away (time will tell on these new boards though). So, go w/ two 1024 dimms to avoid most of the conflicts.

Ok thanks, I do remember reading some stuff about 4 dual channel dimms, just wanted to double check.

Now, any ideas for some good 1GB modules? I plan on getting a Asus A8N-Deluxe (non sli), and I don't plan on OC'ing at all.




Is it even worth getting 2x1GB if you have to deal with such slower memory timings? Or am I better off just sticking with some very fast timing 2x512MB modules?

save your money for a good gfx card or something

get a 1GB stick that costs around $160 (PDP, PQI, VALUE RAM)

No. The Athlons do not benefit from the extra memory bandwidth like the Pentiums do.

For the A64 partly because it has the on die memory controller. For the AXP it doesn't benefit much because it wasn't designed to take advantage of more than 3.2 gig.

Thats what I was thinking too! I planned on getting somewhere between an A64 3200+ - 3500+.

Get 2 512MB sticks of good TCCD's like the Patriots, PQI Turbo's, or the OCZ Platinum Rev. 2's. The only reason you would need more is if you were into 3d Modeling or some sort of content creation.


Edit: Just noticed you dont plan on Oc'ing. I guess just go with some value ram. Make sure you get a decent warranty though. 1GB(2 x 512Mb) is more then enough for most people.

If you read my post i was comparing their benefits to the Pentiums benefits. The Athlons experience 0-10% gains whereas Pentiums get upwards of 20% sometimes. I never said it does nothing the difference is minimal.
