Right now I am running my opteron at 290x10, but with my 2GB Value ram i have to run at a 133mhz ratio putting it around 185mhz....

How much of a performance increase would i get by going to 1GB PC4800 so i could run 1:1 at 290 HTT CL2.5? Would the extra bandwidth be worth the downgrading to 1GB? Whenever i run games i always have the task manager open on my other monitor to monitor how much memory is being used, and i never see more than 800mb being used.

If it's AMD 2GB will deffinatly be better. I doubt you can actualy benifit in PC*WHATEVER* than compared to 2GB. Just overclock it.

The PC3200 doesnt overclock a heck of a lot.... and i will probably add another 1GB of PC4800 down the road... I think the extra bandwidth would be better since i never use more than 1GB anyway? I would also be able to use 1T timings instead of 2T

Well you got a point there. But, unless you are running small applications like IE or Word, 2GB will increase performance quit a bit. Say your running BF2, 2GB of stable Value RAM will perform better than 1GB of high bandwith RAM.

It's kind of like Dual-Core CPU's compared to Single Core. 2 is better for multi-applications and such but a Single Core right now would performe better in modern games. Until they start taking advantge of it.

You make the choice, what do you need it more for, games? 2 GB will perform better in games and intense multi-app's but high-bandwith will perform better In intense single threaded solutions. All-In-All I still think 2GB is better than high band-with 1GB.

Alright thanks i appreciate your input. I think i will go for the best of both worlds and pick up 1GB of PC4800 now and another 1GB a little down the road. Thanks again
