I'm having some problems with my video card right now (Guillemot Xentor32 AGP). My 2D in windows works flawless WITHOUT problems. However, whenever there is 3D hardware accceleration in games , my video totally breaks down and I start see artifacts on the screen and the actual polygons and lines making up the graphics. And then my whole computer can/will freeze.

I've owned the card for about 3 years now and have had this problem for about 1 year. I haven't played many games in the last year so it hasn't been a huge concern until now.

I tried running Thief and software acceleration mode and I could play that fine. As soon as I turned on 3D hardware acceleration, my problems appeared within about 10-20mins. The fan on the heatsink of the card is functioning properly.

I'm tending to think it's the chipset on the video card since the 2D works but not the 3D. But I'm wondering if the 3D acceleration is using up more bandwidth on the AGP line and that my AGP slot on my mobo is faulty.

any ideas? How could I test my AGP slot?

forget my above message. I figured out what it was. The guillemot drivers were causing the freezes. As soon as I installed the NVidia reference drivers (v12.41) no freezing occurs.
