I need to get a friend a cheap video card cause he says his monitor looks blurry. I know ATI cards in the last 2 years have excellent 2d but I'm wondering about the real older ones like the Expert 98. He currently has onboard video on his old HP Pavillion 636O. Hmmmm,Im wondering if it's just his monitor. I guess I could test it.

Anyways,I can pick one up for around 25 bucks...Is it worth it as far as 2d goes if it's not his monitor?

Eh... their passable.
They were reasonably decent in their prime, but that's long past.
Relatively poor by modern standards, but if 1024x768 or so it all you need then it'll do adequately.

I'm using one for my third monitor. I have no problems with it. Seems like a solid card to me.

I had a 8MB Xpert 98 and the image quality was fantastic in 2D and 3D but very slow rendering speeds.

My Dad still uses one as a backup, and I used to use 2. I'd think you could grab it cheaper than that tho. I was thinin' I used to pay ~$20 after rebate, at CompScrewUSA, a couple years ago. Yeah, they do the job, just to show a picture. Not much gaming for 8MB anymore tho.
