2D in Radeons v. GeForce3

I'm looking at the Radeon 7500, & 8500 along with the GeForce3
for my new system. I do game but I also do alot of work in 2D graphics, so which of these should I go for?
I definately need something really good, but I'm trying to watch the cost too.

Is the 7500 the best answer or should I spend the big bucks for either a 8500 or GeForce3?
Plus regular Radeon 64VIVO is hella cheap right now too.
 
2D visual quality tends to vary between manufacturers for GF cards... but in general the 2D is relatively poor on most of them, though there are a few exceptions. If you want excellent 2D along with great gaming then I'd go with the R2 over the GF3.

2D sucks on most nVidia boards period... 🙂
Though it's improved from the days of the TNT2 which were even worse for 2D.
Like I said though, it varies between manufaturers and some manufacturers of nVidia boards have decent 2D.

It's not true, it just isn't. Shadowmask Monitors are excellent with nvidias 2d.

Biased or no I'm relateively sure most people would agree with me. There's a reason why everyone suyggests a Radeon or Matrox when talking about 2D 😉

Actually, not Bias, but as of today, most nVidia boards have baaaaaaaad 2d filters. My tnt2 was fuzzy at 1024x768 on my Shadowmask Monitor. I've seen GF2 MX's as well, and they're pretty bad. Gf3's is a mixed bag. I've heard some are pretty good, some are pretty bad. Generally, pretty bad.

As for ThirdChilds problem, I'd recommend the Radeon 64mb VIVO. Good 2d, acceptable 3d and good low price right now!

Thanks for the advice, and I'll probably buy the 64VIVO

But I'm still curious if anyone has any opinions on the 2D for the Radeon 8500 or 7500.

It's hard to have an opinion on an unreleased card. But if it follows ATi's tardition it should have pretty nice 2D.
 
I have a GTS and it doesn't compare to my Radeon in 2D.

I also had Voodoo 5 in here before and it doesn't compare to the radeon either.

Radeon 7500 and 8500 isn't out yet so nobody knows. I'm sure t'll be a tiny bit better than radeon looking at their track record for 2D.

Interesting, I've always felt that the V3/4/5 actually edged out the Radeon by a small bit in 2D quality.
 
3dfx quality is a fanboy myth.

It's hard to have an opinion on an unreleased card. But if it follows ATi's tardition it should have pretty nice 2D.

Tardition. LOL. That's not so much a spelling mistake as a Freudian slip. ATi is the 500lb monkey and is sooo close to dominating in every category. But their tardition (or tardation) prevents them from having THE fastest 3D part, if not the highest quality and most feature rich.

Well fanboy myth or not I always thought highly of 3dfx for drivers and 2D visual quality.
3D visual quality, and feature set were always lacking though.

Oh I don't expect them to have the fastest board at all, it would be more then a small shock if they did.
I merely expect the 2D of the R8500 & 7500 to be pretty good, because ever since the Rage 128 chipsettheir 2D has been above average in my opinion.
