I was listening to the Final Fantasy Concert 2002.20.02 CD and I suddenly though, wouldn't it be cool if they remade something like FFVI in 3D, with full uber high quality orchestrated music? They would have to be careful to keep the story, battle system, concepts, world, designs, completely intact, but I think it could work. I would dearly like to play FFVI, Chrono Trigger, and lots of other stuff again but I would have to break out the old console and get a copy of the game, which is quite difficult and very likely costly.

Anyone agree with me? :)

No, I think they should drop the 3D. The "better" the graphics get, the worse the games seem to get.

Yeah, I'll agree with you on that one. High res 2D. :D And nice orchestrated music can't be beat.

Guess you don't remember the quicktime movies of Final Fantasy VI rendered for a possible N64 game?

There's one screenshot here...

I have the movie files on a cd somewhere....

Oh, another comment on that: FFVIII is my favorite FF. My favorite RPG, second to only Chrono Trigger.

Hmm, I guess you're right... terrible... but I still think that re-releasing it with high res 2D isn't bad...

Well, I think that 6 was the best .7 was ok, a good game.

8 was terrible. I might like 9, I'm not sure. 10 looks like another 8. Too "teeny-bopper eye-candy craptacular", IMO.

4, 5, and 6 were great. I've never played 1, 2, or 3. I urge anyone who thinks that it takes 3D to make a good game, I urge you to look at what high-res 2D did for Castlevania.

Personal preference, I guess. FFVIII was great in almost every way for me. Sweet story, even though it was a little slow at times; I loved the junction system; Battle system, GFs, were great.

And I absolutely agree that it doesn't take 3D to make a good game, but 3D, by no means, makes a bad game.

Well, personal preference plays a huge role. How old are you? Most people I've met that are over 20 like the 2D games, most teenagers like the 3D versions better.

No, 3D doesn't make a game bad, until people start worrying about eye candy more than gameplay, which is a rampant problem in games in the last 4 years.

I'm 15. :p And I'm not saying I like the 3D versions of games better, espeically since Chrono Trigger is my favorite game of all time.

And I agree with the eye candy thing. Very innovative and purely fun games are few and far in between lately, and so are story driven games. I especially miss the latter. I like FFVIII not for the graphics, but for the story, style, and battle system. The graphics are pretty terrible by today's standards anyway.

High rez 2d like something out of Guilty Gear X. Oh man that would be so sweet.

I guess I'm the only one that liked FF7 the most. It had a character style that was unique. And it was the most captivating of the 3D FF games. I tried 8 and stopped after 2 hrs and game up. 9 I tried but got bored as well. I guess 7 had a darker edge to it that captivated me. I also liked Tactics.

I have to agree with Chaotic42.

In order I enjoyed best

FF6
FF5
FF7
Chrono Trigger
FF4
FF9
FF10 and Chrono Cross. (Not bad but really shouldn't even be on the list)

I did not play 3,2,1

However both FF10 and Chrono Cross were IMHO mediocre FF9 was better but not great.

FF8 was so bad I barely finished the first cd.

Honorable mention does to Secret on mana which is excellent in it's own right and should probably be second on that list.
Xenogears was also quite enjoyable as were the first two breath of fire games. (first being better than second)

The noobs who never played FF before it was released on PSX think VIII is the greatest game ever. Most of the people who've been playing the series since its inception think that IV-VI are the best. I fall into that category, I think IV is one of the best games ever made :) I suprised myself, I bored myself all the way to the 3rd CD of FF VIII, hoping it would get better...it never did.

:D Its one of those things where it would be better had the ones prior not been so great. If there had been no SNES FF's, sure the PSX ones would be good games, VIII would even be decent...but the old ones gave the name such strong expectations, and ones like VIII just couldn't live up to that.

I'm with you. FF7 was one of the greatest rpgs I've ever played. It was the reason that I bought a Playstation. The characters, world, music, battle system, and plot were all incredible.

I didn't start playing the FF series until FFVII was out.. that being said, I hated FFVIII. So damn sloooooow..

I liked IX and X, especially X cause of Blitzball (greatest mini-game ever, second to only the gear fighting in Xenogears)..

Xenogears is still probably my favorite RPG to date though.. great story, graphics were okay, loved the camera angle, great fighting system, and being able to fight in mechas are sweet.. :D

Can't wait for Xenosaga to be released. :)
