I saw that. They must have a laundry list of come backs for the reasons people give to cancel.

Yea, not really worth it, because you need 12 months of AOL, which sucks the big one. Even if you don't have internet already, and you live in the city, alls you need is a wireless card to get someone elses signal ;)

I did a similar deal with CC last Black Friday. Where you got the Toshiba laptop for $199 after AOL Instant Credit.

I thought it was finally over when I finally walked out of CC Black Friday with the $199 Toshiba Laptop after AO'Hell Rebate and waiting 5 hours to check out after actually getting in the store.... BUT NOOOOO!!!!!

Like everyone else that tried I was not allowed to sign up for the BYOB (Bring Your Own Broadband) Plan for $14.95 and got stuck with the $23.90 regular plan. CC employess said "it made their system crash"

OK, so I call AOL the next day, tell them my story... They say OK and tell me they have changed my Plan... I also give them a different Debit card to bill than the one I gave CC.

All Fine and good right???

WRONG!!!!

I just happen to notice a in January that BOTH Debit Cards are getting billed $23.90 a month, so I go back and look and they were BOTH dinged for $23.90 each in December too..

I have spent a whole day trying to get this cleaned up. I started with online support they were no help and refered me to the 800#.

I get a nice guy that figures out what is going on. Not only did the downgrade to BYOB not go through but, Circuit City created two different accounts for me and they have BOTH been getting billed.

He tells me he can't fix it because if he cancels one of the accounts one of the accounts I will automatically get charged the remainder of the contract. He also can't credit me back the $47.80 I was billed for the other account. he tells me only AOL's Fraud department can fix it. He gave me the number for AOL Fraud,...

So I call Fraud. They mail me an affidavit to sign stating that the other account is bogus. They tell me once they get that they will refund me the money.

Lady from Fraud would not change my plan from $23.90 to $14.95, she said that she could not do it.

She did say thet there was an investigation going on into the whole Black Friday / Circuit City / AOL Rebate deal.. She said that there was no reason the system would crash because of the plan selection. She said she had talked to others with the same problem. All she would say was that AOL was "investigating abuse of the Black Friday Promotion by certain Circuit City Stores" She said that if I wanted to get the difference between the two plans I would have to go speak with the manager of the store I signed up at and have them compensate me...

I Bring all my reciepts down to the CC store and talk to customer service and they say there is nothing more they can do and I have to talk to AOL. I said I already talked to AOL and they said to talk to you. Chick says sorry... Can't help you. I have written to CC Corporate and have not recieved a response and it's been 4 months now.

I did Finally get the extra account closed and the funds refunded to my debit card in March.

I have pretty much given up on getting credit for the difference between the Regular and BYOB Plan. I have never used the other AOL account since we got it. The only upshot is we put it under my wife's business so at least it's tax deductable but in the end the $250 instant credit will have costs $286.80 ($23.90 * 12 Months). Again, bought the laptop for my wif'es business so the total cost was tax deductable so, not a total loss. headache wise though I would have been better off paying the $449.00 before AOL IC price and just leaving the store.

What I am really looking forward to now is the fun I will have in November when the 1 year commitment is over. I ahev a feeling getting this AOL account Closed and getting them to stop billing me is going top be a nightmare.

My advice... Avoid it like the plauqe, the $200 Instant Credit is not worth the hassle and you will wind up paying back the $200, actually more.

The laptop itself looks nice, it's almost exactly the same specs wise as the BF Toshiba, my wife loves it, I added a 512MB SODIMM and it does great, 4 cell bettery lasts longer than i expected it would. Just buy it without the AOhelL commitment.

DO NOT BUY WITH THIS SCAM. DON'T REWARD CC AND AOL'S UNETHICAL BEHAVIOR! If I buy a computer at a big box, it will be at bestbuy. They may have their problems, but they've done away with the mail in rebates and other scams. When I open up store ad, I just want to see the freeking price I pay, not some convoluted formula that tries to trick me into buying a product.
