Stalker has a "demo_record (demoname)" function.
FEAR has built in bench
Far Cry has a whole world of 3rd party bench utilities, so does HL2
Source Stress test

Everything will be measured with FRAPS that does not have it's own bench scoring at end of demo.

Don't worry, we will be able to find ways to bench every game we have in common.

Howz that PC Mark coming? ;)

that isn't what i mean ... we won't be doing the *exact same* benchmark --just to record FRAPS in a "demanding part of STALKER", for example

and it is coming very slowly ... this is the first time LeechGet actually lost a D/L at 90% ... oh well, only 4 more hours for PCMark05 benchmark

and i actually was able to get the Vista Cats 7.5 to install on this installation of Win2K ... every other single Cat - maybe 20 i tried including Omegas - simply failed to find the "correct HW or OS" - so ... it is either going to provide some functionality when i reboot ... or hose this installation of Win2K [or just not work at all]

so ... if i am not back till late tomorrow ... that means i had to wait for my modem to arrive that IS compatible with Vista.

back in a few ... or not

STALKER needs to be patched with the 1.0003 patch. There is a buildings timedemo that gives us Min. Max. Avg. Middle frames per second. The demo is about 2 minutes long. I'll give you all the details when you are ready. We do not need FRAPS for stalker. There is a preloaded timedemo. We will be running the same exact bench. Don't worry. hehe. I just tried it. Works very nice and gives all the details in the console after the timedemo is over.

i have DEP but not PAE ... so i dunno
On what? Certainly not on Windows 2000 as DEP was introduced with XP SP2. And on other OSes you can't possily have hardware DEP without PAE.

He is dual booting, or more accurately, swapping hard drives. He posts via 2k installation because he has no modem in Vista yet. Gotta be a little frustrating.

Hey guys, just a quick question about something that sort of references things in this thread.

BB has the BFG 8800 gts 640mb on sale for $319.00 this week and I also received a 12% off coupon that good this coming friday-Mon.

The website says the card is "online only" will going into the store and asking for this customer fulfillment I've seen mentioned allow me to use the 12% along with the sale price?

If so, what exactly should I do, just go in and ask the customer service people or go to the computer dept.?

I've been itching to get a new card since I sold my 7900gtx and this seems like a sweet deal.

Thanks!

It should work. You can either do the customer fullfillment back in the computer department or at the Service desk. Make sure when they ring you up, they scan both barcodes or else it won't go through. Also, when you get the printout, it will have the retail price, when they ring you up, it will have the percentage off and then they'll apply the coupon on top of that.

thanks alot for the quick response.

What exactly did you mean by "scan both barcodes"?

There's the code for my 12% reward zone coupon, I guess the other one would be for the actual vidcard? or are you referring to something else?

But what if my store doesn't carry the card? Also, since the card was listed as "online only" would the sale price still be valid in the store?

When they print up the customer fullfillment sheet, it has two barcodes, one for the product and one for your delivery, if they don't scan the one for your delivery, the order will hang in the system and never get fullfilled. I had to go back to the store for my second one because the guy ringing me up the first time didn't have a clue.

Ah, cool, I get you now. Thanks so much for the help!

I'll just drop by the store after work on friday and go to the computer department and ask for a customer fulfillment for the online price and hope they know what I'm talking about and are willing to do it. Then I'll whip out the 12% coupon. I was planning on getting it on newegg for $349 after rebate (pretax) but this is a way better deal. I kind of prefer evga just cause of their great customer service and stepup program, but I've always heard good stuff about BFG too.

Well, glad the site's back up. Just thought I'd drop a line and give thanks again for the advice.

It took me two tries, but I finally got a customer fulfillment for the 8800gts for the online sale price + the 12% rewardzone coupon. The first store I went to, the guy couldn't get the coupon to work and pretty much left it at that. I tried at the other store the next day and luckily got a cool guy who hit the same snag, but simply went to get a manager to override it as a price match or something and got it to go through no problem. I guess technically it wasn't allowed, but was no problem depending on the manager's discretion. Of course, if it hadn't of worked I probably would have just gotten it at newegg or something so that $30 or so dollars they lost ensured a $300+ purchse versus zero. Anyhow, just hope it arrives without issue.

Of coures, now I see that they have the HD2900xt on sale for about the same deal, of course it's sold out so no chance of getting an order in anyways.

well ... i just did another order from BB ... i need it this week to benchmark against my HD2900xt ... looking at their website it is back to $319 but sold out

and i also got screwed ... the one i wanted for $350 is gone ... and i get to pay $389 now:

BFG GeForce 8800 GTS OC 640MB GDDR3/550MHz overclocked core clock

it has to be worth $60 more than my 2900xt for me to keep it .. bear that in mind when i decide ... frankly the $550 BFG GTC OC is starting to look good

you got me there ... $426 shipped for the BFG GTS/640M OC

BB better take ONE of them back :p

well ... at least i have my 3.0 Ghz OC and 10.4K 3DMark06 score to console me ... simple really ... and damn clever of these Taiwanese MB makers ... big thumb's up for gigabyte ... maybe all they need is someone to "proof" their english translations ... intel ain't so bad either for a $110 CPU

i wonder if it is the CPU OC [from 2.45G to 3.0Ghz] or if XP is just faster than Vista?
... before i would be just left "wondering"
--not anymore

and ... unless i completely smoke my rig with an eXtreme OC [i won't go over the 2nd 'notch up' for Vcore and DDR voltage increases for benching ... one notch over for day-to-day] ... i'll be back with FEAR and 3DMark results

Dang.

Well, my AMEX card that I was going to use to buy this card hasn't arrived in the mail yet, but nevertheless I am going to Best Buy tonight and see if I can work some magic with this "customer fulfillment" phenomenon that I have heard so much about. The only thing that sucks is that I wont get a manufacturer warranty extension that I would have gotten with the AMEX card.

Ugh. I am so irritated right now.

I went to Best Buy and after 20 minutes of standing around waiting for someone who could help me with this "customer fulfillment" the dude told me he had never heard of customer fulfillment. He proceded to tell me that if it's sold out on the website then there was no way they could get a hold of one for me.

Well, with stores like Best Buy, the variation in knowledge from one rep to another can be pretty great. Both the guys I talked to knew immediately what I was talking about. Probably best to find someone who looks like they have some sort of authority, and therefore hopefully experience, as opposed to the ones drifting around kind of clueless.

Of course, if you're trying to get the killer deal on the 8800gts, it's gone now, expired after Saturday so I don't think there is anything left you can do to get that price.

I'm trying to get the 2900XT for $319.99

It's been OOS on the website for a week now (even when it was $379.99). I have a sickening feeling that it's going to stay like that all week until it returns to $399.99. Either that or it'll be available for like 20 minutes and I'm going to miss it again.

don't worry, if i get that GTX or keep the GTS/640 we can always meet in Temecula .. about an hour drive for both of us

and "why" do you want HD2900xt ... do you think it will beat the GTS?
i think it might .. for $320 ... it IS a nice card ... right now, i just don't have anything to really compare it with ... it blows away my x1950p in FEAR, for example - yet falls way short in STALKER [hopefully i will have Cats 7.6 this week ...

that is kinda what i am waiting for ... the "latest" ... and i will set up my two unused partitions of a fresh install of each OS for those new drivers ... maybe nvidia will have newer drivers also

Well, I'm adding another chapter to my 2900XT saga.

I went into Best Buy for the second time in 3 days to see if someone could help me to secure the VisionTek 2900XT. The first time I talked to someone who obviously didnt know what he was talking about and he was the only guy in the computer dept and basically told me there was nothing he could do for me. This time, I talked to a guy who actually attempted to help me.

He got on his computer and looked up the card and informed me that he could in fact order the card for me through their internal website. He even told me the exact date that the card would be in stock and shipped from their regional warehouse (I'm going to keep this date to myself in case it is the same day it will be available on the website). So I'm thinking ot myself, "Awesome finally gonna get this damn card". Low and behold, here comes the bad news. He tells me that I would have to pay the full price of $399.99 and they would not honor the online sale price.

Does this sound right? I dont think so since many of you who bought the 2900XT the first time they had it for $320 said they went into the B&M store and the sale price was honored.

Do I need to go into Best Buy a third time and ask to speak to the GM himself?

I'm currently in an e-mail battle with their CS dept, so we'll see how that goes.
