Watch out, the first 'pro' is the 256 bit version. It's a GT with 512 megs. The non-L version is the same price (but no rebate) and that's the downclocked HD2900XT you're looking for.

If you've got a truly macho power supply the HD2900Pro is certainly not a bad alternative to a 3850. OTOH, you'd probably make up the cost difference in power usage in about a year or two. I'd go for the HD3850 myself if ATI hardware met my needs.

Thanks I fixed link.

The 2900pro pulls 132 watts, same as the 8800gtx. So a good 450 watt 34 amp 12v rail psu should be fine.

My point was for 159.00$ and a little overclock you can have 3870 performance. Not bad?

I'm quite happy with my 2900 Pro. First thing I did when I got it was pushed the core to 700mhz. I haven't tried more, I'll try for 800 some time when I'm bored. Great card for the cost.

Are there any new features or fixes that the 3870 has that the 2900pro lacks?

The 3870 officially supports DX10.1, but the 2900XT already had most of the extra features for DX10.1 anyway, so it is probably a moot point. Also, the 3870 supports PCIe2.0, while the 2900 does not.

Im also very interested in this card and according to the reviews it seem to perform very well for the $159 price tag.

In this review its keeping up with or beating an 8800GTS. I would figure this review is accurate.

For us budget guys wouldnt this be one of OR the best card for $159 or less??

Also power is more then an 8800gts but not by much. On page 13 of the review its 3w more at idle and 25 more at full load.

These cards are supposed to be underclocked 2900xt's
which are as fast as a 8800gt. For 100.00$ less this is a hot deal!

Personally, I would snatch this card up for that price... I doubt they'll be around for long. I paid $260 (if I remember right) a few months back for my 2900 Pro. They are supposed to overclock very well also. I've heard of plenty going over 800mhz on the core. With an overclocked core, and the 512bit memory bus it should out pace a 3870 pretty easily. The only real draw back is fan noise and that they are power hungry. When I'm gaming I can hear the fan spin up pretty loud. Not a big deal to me, but some people may not care for how loud it is.

I dont think so,the closest I can think of is the ati 3850 which is about $179,that is for the 256mb card. This 2900 pro is a 512mb card. The 3850 512mb card is around $200.

this is really a great price for this card,I had the card, flashed it to XT speeds.the only downside is the power usage, make sure you have a stable PSU.

Last night I pushed the slider up to 800mhz. :) I gamed for about an hour, no issues so far. I'll test it more over the weekend. Great card for the money.

Would an Antec 380 Eartwatts hold up to one of these along with an E2180, 2 gigs of DDR2-800, a couple DVD drives, and a hard drive?

It might cuz those antecs i think are 380w continous power so they are probably roughtly around 500w or so max power and the card i think requires a 500w supply and i would assume they meaning max power but could be wrong.

Dammit!...Yes, this is the card you'd wanna buy if you wanted a 2900Pro, as this is the 512 Bit version...I was going to buy one as soon as it was back in stock to pair with my 2900XT...

This might change my gameplan & I might have to go with the 3870 now...Dammit...

Who wants to buy my 2900XT?...lol

Edit: Now shows as 256 bit... they must have corrected the description today.
Edit 2: change body of message below to avoid confustion.

The price isn't as good at $169 plus shipping, and it's listed as "retail lite" package, but ewiz still has the 256 bit model in stock. Last week they had the full retail package for a little more.

I have the 2900GT. Been running 800/990 stable. No artifacts. Ran 3dmark06, got 8196.

Wow, That card is at Newegg for 119.00$ shipped now! Iguess they want to get rid of them?
Nice overclock.

Edit: I looked for some benchmarks for this card. Seems to be on par with a x1950xt. If it overclocks like yours it should be up there in x1950xtx levels for 119.00$? Not bad.

Pulling up the Part # 100222L actually indicates it's the 256 Bit version & not the 512...I think Ewiz entered it incorrectly...The correct Part # is 100212SR, which is verified here.
