so i have been trying to calculate some numbers on paper and they weren't adding up right. after several tries i then noticed that i kept adding 29+3 as 31 instead of 32. i was like wtf is going on here? it seems that the older i am getting, the less i can do basic bath, and i was sharp as an asian in doing triple digit multiplications. even putting together coherent sentences, finding the right words is getting harder. are these neurocognitive deficiencies signs of degenerative brain disease or dementia? i doubt its stupidity as I am well educated. any advice?

It's a sign of stupidity. Have you considered quitting your job and becoming a street performer?

I believe in my heart of hearts that the sole purpose of your post was to slip in that line.

Yes, it creeps up starting at age 25. I just got this effect on me this year.

At the height of my academic learning in mathematics (a semester short of a BS in math; I wasn't a math major), I concluded I could do advance math much more easily and reliably then arrhythmic. Too funny.

Recently I watched a science video on YouTube. This Physicist was being interviewed and the person interviewing him asked why a particular symbol was being used to represent a particular constant (Plank's constant).

It was amusing watching the human computer fumble with the question, saying that he hated the easy questions. His eyes flutters, her cheeks grumbled and finally he smiled and said, "I don't know." I laughed because I was well use to the comfort in saying 'I don't know' from my academic days in Physics. Its like E.T. calling home. :colbert:

If things turn South on you, you can always get a job at McDonalds. 1. No one uses cash anymore. 2. When they do, they have that machine that makes change for you.

I think it's probably more an atrophying of skills due to non use. When you're young you go to school and keep your brain trained up in math and writing skills. When you're an adult you can avoid doing a lot of those things that kept you so sharp in the past. I've noticed that my vocabulary and ability to call up the proper words for concepts suffered when I started listening to more audiobooks rather than reading the old fashioned way, so changes in habits of that sort can affect your mental abilities as well.

I also noticed that my spelling has suffered as a result of my lack of visual reading. Auto correct probably has a lot to do with that too.

This is an awesome idea, I want to find a midget and travel the lands performing song and dance in exchange for pocket change.

If you're well educated, then I assume you're just really pressed for time? Because your post reads like my dog composed it while humping a soccer ball.

wow, Markbnj.....i am speechless. i am without speech. how can you as Moderator make such a crass and condescending remark? as a person of authority here you are supposed to show good judgment, non-bias, restraint, rationality, and equity and fairness. anarchy starts at the top. if you behave this way, how can you expect the members here to behave any better? since i am a man of good character, i had already forgiven you before you typed that dribble.

I think the word you are looking for is "drivel." What I posted is drivel, not dribble. Dribble is what you do to a basketball, or a soccer ball if you're a horny dog.

I first thought this was one of those math riddles where $1 magically disappears.

Like the $25 hotel or $97 t shirt riddle.

Do, not only what is needed but something not done before. Uncomfortably challenge yourself while also doing what you have problems with.
