Can anyone recommend a diy alarm system for apartments? Have already looked into ADT, Brinks, Solmans, not interested in anything they offer. Looking for something that works off a gsm/cellular network-no wires to cut and doesn't require drilling, portability is best.

Not sure if i want monthly monitoring just yet.. thanks

I've got a system from InGrid and it works well. The sensors are wireless. Monitoring is fairly expensive, their base fee is $20/mo if you monitor it yourself, $30 if you want them to. They don't have a cell/GSM option atm but apparently they will offer one at some point in the future.

AFAIK at least the main panel must be hardwired for monitoring.

homesecuritystore.com has a good forum.

i find home security total overkill, just put a lock; and make sure house insurance is up to snuff, just in case...

More than likely you don't have much to lose. Insurance only goes so far. Good luck with a lock if you have a fire and pets inside.
