I am shopping around for a 3000+ chip but I'm hearing pretty good reviews about the (Barton) 2800+ chip as well. Could anyone help me out to decide which is the "best" chip overall? I know the (Barton) 2800+ is 2.5G and the 3000+ is 2.16G. Does the 2800+ have the 512MB L2 cache? Price difference isn't bad at all. I can't seem to find any info on comparisons.

All the Bartons have 512K of L2 cache :)

You shouldnt waste all that money on a higher priced chip, when you can go buy a 2500+ with a good stepping and overclock it to 3200+ speeds, unless of course overclocking isnt your thing..

as you could guess, the 3000+ is faster then the 2800+ There is 2 models of the 2800+ One is a throughbred, which is clocked at 2.25Ghz and has 256K of L2 Cache. The Barton 2800+ is clocked at 2.08Ghz with 512K of L2 cache. They both perform about the same, which is why they are both named 2800+. But, unless you dont like overclocking, like the people above me have said, buy a 2500+ or a 1700+ athlon xp, both overclock extremely well and are priced at good prices.

ooops! I meant 512K not the MB LOL! That would be treat. Thanks! It's great to be here. An excellent forum where it's needed.
At 1.83G That's quite a bargain over the 2800+ chip. I'm not into the overclocking scene too much. If I had a better cooler, I would try it. I'd have to spend at least $50.00 on a bigger cooler. Thanks for yer input!

You dont need much for cooling to overclock to 2.2ghz. A Vantec Aeroflow is probably great and only like $25 I think. But if you dont wanna OC, thats your choice of course :)

I skipped over the 2800+ and went straight to the 3000+ from a 2700+. It's running at 11.5x200fsb, stock voltage.
