2800+Barton OC Questions

I am planning on replacing my HSF tonight or tomorrow and want to be sure of what bridges should be closed/open so I don't have to keep taking the HSF off.

1. If I understand correctly, I should make sure that all the L1 bridges are connected and that the 1st, 3rd, and 5th L3 bridge are open, right?

2. Which one will give me the high multiplier and which one will give me the low?

3. Is a #2 pencil still sufficient to bridge an open gap I need to bridge?

4. How do I know which pins on the bottom to bridge so I can us a small wire to bridge the jumpers? (Mainly for removeability, seen the "how-to" on tomshardware.com but didn't say which pins for which bridges)

With the Soyo KT-400 motherboard, I am surprised that you would need to modify the chip at all. If there is a gap, don't bother to try it with a pencil. That doesn't work anymore. You can paint around the gap with some conductive ink, but be careful not to get any near the gap. Peace.
 
The problem I'm having is that when I try to just up the multiplier to 13, the comp won't boot. It doesn't make sense to me.
 
If you want full access to all the multipliers get a motherboard that can do it... the processors themselves aren't locked, it's dependant upon the motherboard. I don't know the technical reason why, something about a 5th bit value that only a few motherboards can understand, and that's what's needed to access the rest of the multipliers.
I believe the Epox nForce2 boards can do this, but don't hold me to that.
I can say for a fact that the Asus A7N8X boards cannot.
 
The Soyo BIOS has selections up to 18x multipliers, so I would figure that it's able to OC. How do I know for sure, does anyone use or had success in OC'ing the KT-400 mobo? (I believe the KT-333 mobo is also the same)
 
The BIOS in mine also has selections higher than 12.5, BUT, that doesn't mean they're available and will give you that multiplier setting.
 
My KT400 chipset m/b, the FIC AN19E, has most multipliers available in .5 imcrements. I've been able to set it via the bios with no mods to the chip for Tbred and Barton chips.
 
well ya, if you are trying to push the memory higher than it was intended to go then backing off the timeing can help.
