Not sure if anyone already posted this, but I saw it today on Democracy Now. Watch out of who's dreaming about you!

-Clarence Moses-EL was convicted in 1988 and sentenced to 48 years in prison for raping and assaulting a woman when she returned home from a night of drinking
-When police initially asked who attacked her, she named the man who later confessed
-More than a day after the assault, while in the hospital, the woman identified -Moses-EL as her attacker, saying his face came to her in a dream
-Moses-EL has long claimed he was innocent
-But his efforts to appeal his conviction were unsuccessful, in part because Denver police threw away DNA evidence from the attack
-His break came in December 2013 when another man, L.C. Jackson, sent him a letter in prison
-The letter said he couldn't believe Moses-EL was accused of raping the woman because he 'had sex' with her at the same time that night'

He's finally out of prison, I hope he gets rich.

A jury actually bought that his face appeared in a dream? o_O

The fad in the 1980's for "justice" included bullshit like 'regression therapy' testimony which got a number of innocent teachers sent to prison for accusations of Satan worship and child sacrifice. Dream evidence from back then is about on par.

We have similar fads today and have progressed exactly not.

I've always found that quote to be sinister. Should 100 rapists be left alone, so that one innocent isn't incarcerated? Fuckin' naw.

Are you willing to be the guy who gets put to death for a crime he didn't commit just because it's easier for a prosecutor to have you executed than to ask the police to go catch the real criminal?

Nay, as that would be an improper trial.

If there was no skulduggery involved, however, and the proper procedures were followed, and I was still convicted as the criminal despite my innocence, and that the ratio of criminals:innocents convicted is roughly 100:1 (hell, I'd settle for 10:1), then I would grit my teeth and bear it.

I'd still claim my innocence, mind.

Admittedly, that's easy to say, but I have given it quite a bit of thought, and that's the sentiment I find myself concluding.

Edit: Also depends on the crime.

If it's not a moral crime, then I wouldn't. Software piracy, marijuana possession/use, buying counterfeit clothing, that sort of thing.

If it is a moral crime, such as rape, I would, as I'd rather have innocents and victims given justice 100 times out of 101, than have innocents and victims given no justice.

28 Years because all it takes is a person's word on "who did it".
Mere accusation is enough to use our system to destroy people.

Imprisonment is bad enough but think of the people who have been put to death under the same circumstances. What's sad is that some people think cases like these are acceptable because they would rather punish some innocents rather than let a perp possibly escape. I hope one day they or someone they love become one of those acceptable losses they are willing to live with.

Maybe that will change their mind.

Death penalty must be restricted to cases of absolute certainty and guilt. Such as the mass killers we catch in the act.

The quote doesn't mean they should be left alone. It means they shouldn't be incarcerated unless there is sufficient proof.

You need to understand the context. What he is saying is that sometimes our legal system cannot prove someone did something. When it cannot be proven in the court of law, you should let the person go. Far too many times people "know" someone is guilty and then evidence shows it was not them. Thus, it is better to sometimes let guilty people go if you cannot prove they are guilty, than to punish an innocent person.
