This thread is funny. :)

Theres a lot more to a monitor than size. The HannsG stuff is cheap, and for most people, just peachy. The Dell 27" is an artists monitor, and the differences between the two make for a huge gap TO THOSE THAT APPRECIATE IT. Comparing the two is like comparing a Ferrarri and a Mazda ont he basis that they are both cars.

ooops did I just insulted your super IPS monitor or something?
hey Capitan Artist you're not the only guy who knows how to appreciate fine expensive things (fine arts, fine cars, fine women, fine yacht, fine wine, fine caviar, fine house) in life. In case you missed my point (because you were busying loving your IPS), my post was also about value. Even millionaires and billionaires love a good values.

ehh so quit with your back hand slap. When you're ready to post pics of all your fine fine toys in life (beside your monitor), then we can play ok. Deal?

I have the I-Inc 28 inch which is the same as the HannsG except the I-Inc is all matte 100% where the HannsG is glossy on the bezel. I am very very impressed with mine as well. Yes the view angles stink, but when looking at it head on (99%) of the time anyway who cares about view angles. I used to have a Dell U2410 and I can honestly say that if I look at it dead on I can tell no difference between the two. Except the Dell is $600 while the I-Inc is $200 and is twice as big. I like it so much I got my dad one for Xmas this year :) Probably the best $200 or so I have spent in a long time...

I got the same one and the $39 3yr warranty from CompUSA makes it soooooo worth it.

There was no back hand slap. ITs got nothing to do with it being expensive. IN fact, there was no insult, and the post was just a matter of fact statement tying to explain the difference between the two. You're the one that seems to have some buried issues with other people having expensive stuff here, not me. I bet you're the kind of guy that gets crabby when somebody drives by in a Porsche too eh?

The fact is the two monitors are completely different, and cater to a different type of user. Comparing the two isn't really relevant, as I pointed out with the comparison to the cars. The Hanns is probably great for a bunch of things (I wouldn't know, I don't have one, never seen one) but its still just a basic monitor. Great for a whole bunch of things, although that dot pitch must be high at that size for its res. For art geeks the Dell will be a clear winner over it, for reasons they will appreciate but reasons that are also likely unimportant to others. Same way with audio, cars, tvs...the list goes on.

Next time you want to insult somebody back make sure they've insulted you in the first place, and you aren't just having a fit from some festering inadequacy issue. ;)

how/who was the rma through? just curious about grief of replacing if needed...

In my RMA. They were actually very friendly and easy to work with. You have to pay shipping back to them, and they ship it back out free. In my case, they said they were going to repair it but when it arrived it was a brand new monitor, in box, with a different serial # and all. Didn't expect that. However, I had a dead pixel and more severe backlight bleed. There is also this weird splotch in the middle of the screen that you can see if you view at angles, but is fine head on. I blame TN for that though. But I never noticed a problem with the original.

However, that one broke again too 9 months later and I wasn't going to spend the $40 in shipping back to them and associated hassle. I opened it up and fixed it myself. It was overheating and was short circuiting the control board, and I took the back off and it air cools now, and I haven't had a problem. I was going to install a fan over the control board but air cooling is working fine.

I went to microcenter to check it out, and I have to agree, the I-Inc unit is better than Hannspree. I-Inc only had off angle color distortion when looking from below, while HannsG had it when looking from above as well.

buy both and use them for a month, and then I'll ask you how you like the cheap one. Comparing in store with different lighting and no real benchmark (probably you looked at text only) does not do the justice to either of them. Dell 27" is beast, but not everybody has money or eyes for it.

I have seen people in office switching from one type to another and not noticing. But I do notice shitty TNs (not that all of them are like that) right away: many are too bright and bleak, no color depth, and of course bad color angles. We have all kinds of monitors in office and older Dells with IPS look way better than new 22" TNs.

Also to add, bigger dots (smaller resolution per size) works well for eyes in the long run.
