Thinking this could be a good start of a chaep htpc, combined with the pvr-150 mce I have and paired with a decent vid card and slap mce on it.

No DVD burner, no digital out and only a 40 GB drive, but it does come with XP home and has an AGP slot for adding a card with TV-out.

And the CPU is fast enough, especially since your PVR-150mce has hardware MPEG2 encoding

nice, this thing has 6 usb ports.

"Expansion Slots:

* One Open AGP eXpress slot
* Three 32-bit PCI slots for PCI 2.2-compliant bus interface (1 used) "

what is an agp express slot?

I think they mean 8x AGP.
This is a nice deal, but nothing special. You could probbably make a better computer than this on the same budget.
Oh, wait...this comes with an OS? Never mind, then. A copy of WinXp home OEM is about 100$ by itself.
It still needs another 256mb of RAM to do anything, though.

if you plan on post processing your dvds (ffdshow, dscalar) then i highly recommend you stay away from celeron chips.

What kind of TV will you be hooking the computer up to?

yea I believe that is a mistake on the agp express, I may call and see.

although it is not a great deal it would probably fair better than the p3 I have oc@864 with sdram, presently acting as a file server. And the case is of the same color scheme as my tv components and stands vs the ivory gateway case I am using.

I may have to give it a shot🙂

So you don't believe celeron is up to the task huh ?

can you use ffdshow, dscaler in conjunction with MCE?

TV is a sanyo 36 "HDTV

I have already seen that article at tums. I do not believe it applies here since the chipset is an intel 845G which as far as i know does not support PCIE or this branded agp express.

Called outpost and first of all they are on backorder and the salesperson was unable to confirm if this was accurate info or not.

So this deal is definitely cold, will change in title
