But is the 2700X better than the equivalently-priced R5 3600? Not quite a thread-crap, but I had a 2700 (non-X), OCed to 4.0Ghz @ ~1.35V, and I much prefer the R5 3600, even with less overall cores. It's making MORE money mining, compared to the 2700 @ 4.0Ghz, so there's that.

But a 2700X should OC to what, 4.2-4.3Ghz maybe? Could be a wash. And of course, compatibility with older mobos is better with the 2700X.

That was a great price for that CPU.

My son got a 3600X instead of the 3600. He had extra Birthday money to throw at it. It is a tough choice at the $200 price point between the 2700X vs the 3600.

It all depends on what you are using the CPU for. If I was doing intensive PC work. 2700x.

My son games mainly at 1440p and uses dual screens at the same time. So we went with the newer CPU. I think both would have worked for him but opting for the newer CPU seems to have worked as his FPS has jumped nicely coming from a 1600. It is also auto clocking very well, 50mhz shy of max. AMD needs to figure that stuff out.

Yeah, the 2700X is still rather formidable for MT work, but for gaming, the ST performance due to 7nm, increased/improved L3 cache, and tweaked Boost behavior, really favors the 3600.

3600 also generates less heat right ?
