VERY hot! MSRP is $299, although they usually sell for $269 with the occasional $229 sale. I use a lot of these at work - they sip power at just 40 watts, they're thin & light (I also have a lot of the older non-LED Hanns-G 27" monitors, huge size/weight difference), nice-sized font for older eyes (1920x1080 @ 27"), and very bright.

My only complaint is that the stand is pretty crappy - it only has a basic tilt function, but it is 100x100 VESA-compatible, so you can get a nice arm off Monoprice for cheap if you need one. Also, it's a TN panel, so you don't get IPS colors, but it's pretty decent anyway. So the downside is that it's not a 2560x1600 IPS display, but the upside is that it's cheap, it doesn't have IPS ghosting, it's easy to read the fonts on at native resolution, and it has a native size for widescreen movies.

A couple of these would also go great with a 20w Intel NUC computer

Was interested in it until I read about 16:9 being standard now and that it wouldnt really be an upgrade for me.

I have a hanns-g 281D which is 16:10 1900x1200

Yeah I have the 16:10 non-LED as my primary monitor right now. I wish that 16:9 wasn't the new standard, but oh well. I'll hold onto this baby as long as she lives! :awe:

My standard warning about anything Hanns: If you get one hope that you don't ever have to need warranty service. They are a pain to deal with and then their repairs leave loose screws to short stuff out and blow up, and/or use duct tape to splice wires with. I kid you not. And now the monitor is acting weird again. Gee, I wonder why...

They're a joke.

I have the same monitor, still going strong after 4 yrs.

Nice, big, bright. HDMI for under $300.

Hoping they come out with an affordable 30 or 32. I'd snatch it.

I have the same one. Not to hijack but I think a big 28" monitor should last more than 4 yrs. This thing didn't even reach 5. Died this week. Think I am going to try my first LCD revival project. Apparently I'm not the only one who thinks when you spend good money for a large monitor you should get your money's worth. Just seems like I didn't ....

We've had two fail at work (one by user damage, the other had a pink screen after a couple years) and while both were under warranty, our quote with shipping for the repair job was like $170 or so. I ended up just ordering some new ones when they went on sale instead since it was only like $100 more and we wouldn't have to wait weeks or months to get them back. But even so, they're still a third the price of a lot of other higher-end large monitors, which sort of makes up for it. I have a much easier time justifying $400 for a pair of 27" LCD's over a $700 Dell model (plus the 1080p resolution size is easier to read for a lot of the older workers and workers who wear glasses).

I dunno, 4 years for budget equipment is pretty decent. I've had that same argument with a lot of people on stuff like those cheap Acer laptops back in the day - they'd get a budget laptop from Staples or wherever (i.e. cheap, flimsy plastic) and they wonder whey it broke after a year or two of normal to heavy use, despite having paid "good money" for it. There's just a spectrum in the industry, and even though parts can cost a fair amount, it doesn't necessarily equate to something that will last - sort of like buying a Kia or something 10 years ago, even though it cost $10k, it would fall apart pretty quickly. I buy a lot of Hanns-G at work, but I more or less consider them disposable due to the cost...I can get 3 of the 27" Hanns-G for the price of one good Dell, which really helps my budget.

That would be epic! I just snagged that 32" Toshiba "720p" TV (1366x768) for $179 from Newegg to replace my grandma's 14" CRT, which had a full-sized magnifying glass on it for her to read the 800x600 resolution :D So now she'll have 2" high icons on a nice, big screen with VGA input. Weird, but whatever works!

In my experience, LCD monitors just don't generally fail after a few years. I remember that we had a Viewsonic 15" that just kept going and going and I think eventually got retired after a while (> 10 years). This was one of the early generation models too.

I also have a Planar 19", bought in 2003, that I still use right now in a multi-monitor configuration.

To your point, the price sort of makes it not a big deal. From an environmental perspective though, I'd hate to have to throw out such a big piece of electronics after just 3 or 4 years.

I wouldn't listen to the negative comments. Knock on the wood, but I NEVER had a monitor fail on me no matter how cheap or expensive. There are many factors that come into play. Smoking home, hot temps, proximity to heat and certain devices, power fluctuations, poor handling, etc, etc. My 1st monitor was a super cheap costco piece of crap that was made by someone I never even heard of. Still works for a guy I sold it to after 10 years!!! My Viewsonic 14 inch still works for my dads PC even though it's 8 years old.

Hanns are cheap monitors, but 27 inch for $200, with FREE shipping? I'd jump on this without even thinking... This is how much it would cost you in shipping + repair fees + time wasted and customer support headaches if you had to repair one of the more expensive displays. The risk is definitely worth it in this case.

Too bad I already have a 25.5" Asus 16:10, 27" 3D Acer and no more frigging space...

I've only had one or two fail at work. One was the 27" Hanns-G (non-LED) recently - screened turned into a pixelated pinkish hue after a couple years of 24/7/365 use, but that was just one out of a ton we've had running. Been very happy with them. I use one at home and really like it

Good point by you. I make the same claim to friends/relatives. Laptops are just about disposable at this point. If a $299 laptop lasts 3-4 yrs - you got your money's worth. Guess I just never thought about it with LCD's. What do you think about my revival project? Is a $20 kit worth it?

Do it. What the hey. It's worth it for the entertainment factor alone.

Post up a picture-gram story line including expletives and massive alcoholic consumption while performing the rejuvenation.

Sure, if you can fix it for $20, give it a shot! And post back if you're successful :awe:

My wife's iPhone got a crack on the front glass and I replaced the front & back cover with a $39 eBay kit...hardest project I've done to date - took me 3 hours - but came out awesome! (plus the replacement shell was pink, so that was a bonus haha)

sorry you didnt pay 'good' money for a Hanns-G

you paid bottom dollar for the cheapest LCD you could find

I know, I've had 5 Hanns G's

my HH28s I passed on to family, are 4 years old, and recently stopped waking up from sleep, now you have to use the power button, but other than that they are still rocking

A 32" tv for $179 is hot in it's own right, even if it's only 720p. Post it
