I haven't done a big set of benches to compare drivers for awhile. I just tested 27.10 and 23.12 on my GF3 setup. I benched UT (in D3D), Q3A, SS, RTCW, in 1024 x 768 and 1600 x 1200.

So where are the benches? It's not even worth the time to type in the data.

There is no difference between them. Every game in every res was within a FPS or two with both drivers. I was really suprised at how close they were. I think the current crop of drivers are at the point where we aren't going to see big performance changes. I guess I'll just stick with 23.12's.

What the heck. Here they are anyway:

All games were benched with highest quality video settings, trilinear filering, etc. No FSAA. No sound.

Q3A v1.30 four.dm_66 ------ 27.10/23.12
1024 x 768
197/196.5

1600 x 1200
118.6/118.5

RTCW retail checkpoint.dm_57 ------ 27.10/23.12
1024 x 768
100.8/102.1

1600 x 1200
62/61.1

UT 4.36 D3D UTbench ------ 27.10 - 23.12
1024 x 758 min/max/ave
34/97/59 - 34/98/59

1600 x 1200 min/max/ave
33/85/55 - 33/75/55 (the 85/75 max may have just been a fluke)

Hmm, I found Unreal (not UT) and Serious Sam were slower under the 2710s and 2720s than they were under the 2312s. The 2730s were slightly faster but they have problems with adhering to my gamma settings.

I was surprised at how close the benches were. Pretty much identical. Maybe system specs make yours different from mine. Win2K Vs WinXP? The only difference score wise I saw was in 3DMark2K1 in the High Polygon Count tests. I got a big increase with 27.10, but haven't seen it help in any actual games.

27.10:
High Polygon Count (1 light) 24.3 MTriangels/s
High Polygon Count (8 lights) 6.0 MTriangels/s

23.12:
High Polygon Count (1 light) 18.3 MTriangels/s
High Polygon Count (8 lights) 3.6 MTriangels/s

Anyone else?
