!!!NEEDS A BIOS FLASH TO SUPPORT THE SEMPRON 2800+ E6 STEPPING CPU!!!

I have a 754 socket 3000+ i can use to flash the bios, so not a problem, for me, but might be a problem for others.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813185050

And you have as good a Motherboard/CPU as your gonna get for $67.00 shipped

I have tried PCChips, ECS, BIOSTAR, and SOYO, and the PCChips is the only one still working.

I have had several ECS and SOYO boards die for no apparent reason.

and warranty support was nil.

I used to hate PCChips too, until I tried several, and they all run stock no problems.

would not suggest one for overclocking though.

There other motherboards for about the same price, but they are SIS chipsets, and i have not had good luck with SIS, so I don't reccomend them.

'Guess NewEgg's spinning different Combo Deals over the morning: now they're showing the
BioStar NF325-A7 in the Combo. http://www.newegg.com/product/Product.asp?item=N82E16813138247

By the time anyone reads this, it will probably change again! :)

I don't think I'd use either the PCchips M860 v1.0 or the BioStar NF325-A7 boards, as each has quite a number of complaints... but it's sure tempting to get some other ~$40 board!

Probably half the complaints are, because the BIOS FLASH Requirement, so if you have a way to flash the BIOS, that gets rid of alot of the problems.

I would not touch a Biostar motherboard either, have tried several, and they all died with in a year, and all were run stock, they are also very picky about power supplies.

My friends still running his ECS mobo that I got for him in the Frys package last year for I believe $80. Only problem was it only had an agp slot but thats been fixed now with declining prices on decent AGP cards.

the biostar nf3 board is anoying. poor PCI and AGP compatibility. I had issues with the only two we ever stocked and never bought any again because of it.
I would take a VIA chipset over nf3 or SIS anyday for socket754 ( now 939 is another story- nf4 only for us :) )

I would take an nf4 4x for 754, PCI-e :).

I have the Biostar NF325-A7 that I picked up in an earlier combo deal. It's been fine for about 1.5 years, but now I'm having machine_check_exception errors. I've eliminated everything except the Biostar or the CPU as the problem, and I'm leaning towards the Biostar because of all the other horror stories I've heard.

I say spend an extra few $$ on a used board from a solid brand name, shouldn't be hard to find these days.

Godd find on the Sempron though, I might pick one up just to mess with. I love when Semprons OC really high and outperform much more expensive chips (not that these are guaranteed to do so, I'm just saying...)

yeah i remember paying $40.00 for a 1ghz duron way back when, on a newegg mother's Day special, and this is atleast twice the cpu for $27.00 shipped.

and probably more cpu then the average joe needs.

the closest INTEL 775 socket cpu is a 2.66ghz celeron "D" for $39.00 shipped, and is probably 25% slower than this cpu.

The Biostar nforce 3 board is identical, if not very similar, to the ECS board that was in a bundle before. This is a rock stable board that overclocks Venice 3000 to 2.5ghz. There is a long thread here about it. I personally have 2 running without a hitch. Look at the thread and see what versions of drivers you need to install. Also, after fresh XP install, you must install the video driver first. Why? I don't know. I just found out by accident.

Has anyone read the Newegg "reviews" of the Sempron? Looks like Homie the Clown wrote them. Thugslicious!

Other Thoughts: That I bought 5 of these when these came out, I'm still on the 2nd one. Now who is smart?

What is the point and method of flashing the bios? I guess you mean to flash the MB, why do infer that this is difficult?

Pretty sure you don't. At least I have never heard of a way to.

Based on the reviews for the PCCHIPS MB it will not boot with this newer Sempron 2800+. You need to flash the MB with an updated BIOS using an older S754 CPU and then replace it with the 2800+. So if you have access to an older CPU you are ok otherwise the PCCHIPS / Sempron 2800+ combo will not work for you.

Cons: This MB is not compatible with Sempron 2800+ without a bios update. To update you need an older generation Amd 754 Proc. to get it to boot.
