I have an Epox 8kt2a+ motherboard, and I want to put a 1.0ghz t-bird(266mhz fsb) on it. Will it work ok since the motheboard is 200mhz fsb? If it will, then I can upgrade the motherboard later.

Thanks,
RandyH

Yes it will work but it will work at 750mhz.

unless you want to run at 750 you'll need to unlock it & up the muliplier to 10X.

It will work on the board and just default to the fsb 100...you can try to gain some of the fsb back but doubt the earlier boards have much more than a 112mhz fsb to adjust to...let alone be stable at that speed since it will boost ram specs and pci cards.

unlock the chip or it will detect as a 750mhz chip (7.5x100) instead of 1ghz (7.5x133)...

If you unlock you can turn the multiplier up to 10x100 and get the 1ghz back.

Ok, thanks for the help. One other question...I understand the newer AXIA chips are already unlocked. Is this right? If so, I don't have to do the 'pencil trick', I can just change the multiplier in bios.

thanks again

If you insepct the L1 bridges and they are indeed not factory cut (unlocked) then the pencil trick is not needed...GOOD LUCK!!!

By the way it makes perfect sense to get 266fsb cpu now and wait for mobo upgrade to possibly a ddr platform when it matures a bit...

You have to overclock it. Unlocking the CPU simply gives you the ability to overclock.

After you have unlocked the L1 bridges, simply change the multiplier from 7.5 to 10 via jumpers or the BIOS. Really, it's not even overclocking because you're just making your chip run at its rated speed.

It would still be underclocking since the FSB is underclocked. My Abit Ka7 has a setting for 133MHz (266) FSB, too bad it's a slot a.

I actually have a 1.33 (266) unlocked running at 12.5x10=1300 on an A7V. 12.5 just means over 12.5 as long as the cpu is unlocked your fine. With the latest 1008_01E bios for the A7V I can even put a pony in there no problem.
