266Mhz FSB Athlon work with SDR RAM?

I just had a computer store tell me today that I wouldn't be able to run a 266Mhz FSB Athlon CPU on my A7V133. I have a Micron 256 SDR stick of RAM. He said DDR RAM is required to run at 266Mhz FSB speeds.

Do I need to buy a 200Mhz FSB Athlon, or will a 266 work?

well the 266 should work in any mobo, but if you put it in a 200 mobo, then you'll want to unlock the multiplier and raise it (since a 1ghz 266 would havea 7.5 multiplier, and would run at 750. unlock it and raise it to what its supposed to be)

A 266MHz FSB Athlon works fine with regular SDRAM, don't listen to that crappy computer store. The whole point of the KT133A chipsrt (what your motherboard is based on) was to allow people to use the Athlon C parts with SDRAM rather than DDR with the AMD 760. The KT133A doesn't even support DDR.

Thanks! That's what I wanted to hear... I've read countless reviews on the A7V133 board with regular SDRAM -- and some were using the 266FSB.

I guess I'll be ordering a 266Mhz FSB Athlon now. :)

I doubt it. The salesman didn't know what he was talking about. And if you tried to plug DDR RAM into an A7V133, it wouldn't even go in, much less work properly.

Yeah, makes ya wonder about computer salesmen out there. I consider myself fairly knowledgeable about computers, but as soon as he said that -- I started questioning what I knew. I hate it when that happens!

Either way -- I'll be ordering probably a 1.2Ghz 266FSB no thanks to that salesman. :)

Now I just have to check out the reviews on cooling solutions, and find some guides to overclocking (I have absolutely no experience in this area...).

Lots of salesman don't know much, this is just one of them.
You can run a 266MHz FSB Athlon perfectly fine with regular SDRAM.

In fact the KT133A chipset that supports the 266MHz FSB Athlon's doesnt even support DDR-SDRAM.
If that salesman is correct then their are an awful lot of people doing what supposedly isnt possible according to him :)
