2600xt agp vs. 7800gs @ 500,1440

I have a bfg 7800gs overclocked which gives me 3331 in 3d mark 06 and 6300 in 05.
I was wondering if the 2600xt was a good upgrade for my aging agp system. My psu will not handle the 1950 pro or gt. The 7900gs is not much of a upgrade for 180$ and 7900gt for 250$ is way too much money. It seems for new games the 2600xt does well.

I game at 1280x1024 med settings. First person shooters mainly but some racing games too.

Thanks.

just out of curiousty did you test your 7800gs oc with atitool for artifacts? i get them if I got above 460 on the core BUT you never see them while gaming maybe because my cpu slows things down.

I have a 7800GT that is not as overclocked as your GS and I score about 4800 in 3DMark06 (about 40% higher). My CPU is a socket 939 AMD X2-4400. At the resolutions you game at, you may get bigger back for your buck buying a better used CPU and motherboard.

Yes I tested with ATI tool and I get artifacts at 502,1450.
I run her at 490.1400.

I think mine must be using the g70 core oppsed to the g71 core yours probably has. g70 cores don't oc as good and run hotter. oh well I'll hvae to make do for now I'm thinking about doing a fairly cheap upgrade to pci-e soon.
