Hi,

So Intel's delaying their SNB-E, and I'm done waiting to upgrade. I want the fastest CPU possible, so should I get the 990X or the 2600K?

Neither. Get an SSD and upgrade CPU next year when SB-E comes out. Even if your CPU can only OC to 3.6GHz or so it's gonna be more than fast enough until then.

Looking at the Ops specs, find it lacking a ssd.

My vote goes for a 2500k and the $100 savings towards a solid state drive :d

Just sold off a i7 950 and built a 2500k rig with a 60gb ssd and i don't regret it.

Much cooler faster clocks like crazy what more could you want?

Why would I go from an i7 860 with HT to an i5 2500K without HT?

Considering you got a gtx470 i'll take it as your a gamer and well the 2500k is the best chip for gaming atm but if you do more then gaming heck go 2600k i hate recommending $300 or $1,000 processors and for what?

What are your needs? Gaming on a single display @ 1920x1080? I wouldn't upgrade anything other than adding SSDs or upgrading to a 27in LCD, either 120hz if you're an FPS gamer, or a nice IPS panel like the Dell U2711. Spending $5k on an amazing computer won't give a noticeable improvement proportionate to the $$ in today's games over what you have now.

All right, I guess I'm just going to sit tight with my money for the foreseeable future. Not really interested in SSDs right now, since they're too small for my needs atm. Thanks, all!

If I do a lot of video encoding, should I wait for BD?

Right now I have a Q9300 :\

Good choice. I wouldnt even buy SSDs because they are too expensive.

I would attempt to turn off HT if your 860 is a dud and see what it could do without HT.

It seems like you are set on having your HT though.

Remember 3.2 HT < 4.0 no HT

Do you do video editing or audio editing ? You running server or DAW ...
Digital Audio Workstation thank you.....

Doing projects I get avg 25 percent usage and it likes HT but I dont have it, most I see it go is 67 percent usage. Crysis 2 is the only game that uses 90 to 100 percent CPU usage .. every other game or situation I have never seen it go full usage, so why upgrade ? AMD didnt do good with their 6 core CPU's also Im conifident they will lose again. 8 core would be amazing with HT on,,, wow ,,,, I can run dual DAW on in single station LOOOOOOL

I wonder how hot it will get and the cooling for it.
