8.7 GHz??? The multiplier is limited to 57x, so 5.7 GHz is about the most you'll get, although you may get to 6 GHz.

Really hard to resist strangling the guy for saying "I'm running at 8/9 megahertz!" over and over.

This is what happens when people who actually have no idea about computers think they have an idea about computers.

This, there is no FSB overclocking so this is impossible. 57 x 100 = 5.7
+1.. I've read the review here on anandtech.. max is about 57x multiplier and the most you can get out of the FSB is 105...

funny link...

As everyone above has posted the absolute max should be around the 6GHz mark (105 x 57) At 0:26 you can see the frequency being reported as 3502.84MHz (103.02 x 34). Probably about right for ~50c.

1) his cpuz shows 3500mhz.
2) he is worried about his board catching fire at 53 degrees celcius.
3) he says "over 9! MEGA-HURTS!" (its showing over 9ghz though)

You make a small app that shows a black window with an image, some phoney numbers, and a progress bar on it. How hard can that be?

The base multiplier was limited to 57x. 59x is now available on Gigabyte boards (others may also have the option):

Turbo multipliers can go up to 255x:

That said, getting to even the mid 50's takes a lot of Vcore. There's no possible way that the guy in the video is getting that high. The Vcore needed to get there would definitely fry the chip. My guess is that the UEFI setup option to allow real-time changes in the OS is disabled. The auto-OC software thinks it is controlling the multiplier, but it's still locked.

+1 to this ^

First off if the guy knew what he was doing and he really did get 9ghz, we would see it on HWBOT.

Not to mention he would get massive emails from board vendors asking him to try to beat his current record with there board.

Actually thats not even the WR.
TOM's Hardware if i recall broke 10ghz on a P4 Netburst arch.

As far as I can tell 8.2GHz is the highest CPU-z confirmed overclock - HWBot. Can't find any mention of Tom's and ~10GHz.

This appears to be the world record holder.
