i have a msi kt4 mobo thats pretty good at telling what the proc is

but this time i am confused alittle friend bought me a 2600+barton for a trade that we did
got it from newegg and yes i am sure that its a barton

installed everything and turn the system on first it told me that it wa a 1100 amd athlon ok so i reset bios and turn the multiplier up a lot restarted and then it told me i have a 1800+ athlon xp so again go into bios turn the multiplier up more and then it took it to a moblie athlon 4 2400+ is what it is reporting now and i cant go any farther or else the system hangs

the weird and messed up part is my mulitplier is set a 15 and my fsb is at 167 and the cpu is at 1.92 ghz

what is the normal specs for this thing and why i am at these settings and when the mobo is set at default settings it is reading it as a 1100 athlon

I R IS CONFUSED

Well the default FSB is 333 so set the RAM to 166, and the default multi is.....(pause while I complete the Newegg search) 11.5

Oh yeah by the way, that processor is new and is therefore locked. That means you can't adjust the multiplier (yes you can move the number in BIOS but it won't do anything) so simply set your RAM to 166 and go ahead and make sure the multi is set to auto or 11.5 and you should be good

Might be interesting to put WCPUID or another CPU ID proggie on there.

But yeah, as Stu says it s/b 11.5 x 166mhz.

How old is your mobo and what BIOS is it using?

I got one of these chips; if you've got the same, it's a 1.5v Low Voltage desktop. I ordered a regular XP2600+ from newegg and got model # AXDL2600DLV4D - see the reviews on this newegg page
for more info on what you've got. They are unlocked, too. My bios won't really identify it either, but it works great!

If you really care what the BIOS says, try flashing it to the latest version. As long as you set the FSB correctly (if the mult is locked), who cares what the BIOS says. Use a program like CPU-Z confirm that it's running properly.

i allso noticed that when i used the cpu-z program i am only running at 1.44-1.52 volts that was allso weird and the readings that i got allso carried over to the cpu-z program thats why was like this is/was kinda weird

CPU-Z is pretty good at determining the voltage, but by no means fool-proof. Go by the voltage reading in your BIOS or by using a stronger program like MBM.

and these readings are confermed through

bios
cpuz
mbm5
