2600 Barton - Nice and toasty - WHY!?

I have a big itching question that I need to ask. I just purchased a week 37 (unlocked) 2600+ Barton. When I got everything running (with the AMD stock HSF) and when I turned it on I realized (in the BIOS) that my temps were unusually high (between 49C and 55C). This is not normal. So I slapped on my Tt Volcano 7 after some difficulty becuase my board is so cramped - and I realized that the temps were unchanged. Even when I overclock the temperatures still stay roughly the same, but the heatsink is barely lukewarm. So what the hell?

Some things that I am considering could be the problem:

- Case is open - haven't tested with it closed yet, cause I dont have the side pannels yet.
- Proximity to 'DPS' module (there's an extra power phase circuit card that sticks up right beside the socket)
- BIOS is wrong - when I run Sandra it switches the power temp for the CPU temp.
- Volcano 7 isn't good enough (why!!??)

Any other ideas are greatly appreciated. (BTW - I did apply some goop, so don't worry)

AMD XP Barton 2600 @ 195 FSB + 0.025 V (2.203 GHZ)
Gigabyte 7NNXP
Corsair TWINX (2 x 256) XMS PC3200 CAS2 (2-2-2-5) (+.1 V)

Where are you getting the idea that those are bad temperatures? Motherboards are all calibrated differently, so don't compare your temps to anyone else's unless they've got the same exact mobo and preferably the same exact BIOS version.

Also, confirm that your Volcano 7+'s clip is installed into the heatsink in the correct direction, since it comes disassembled. The stepped end of the heatsink's base should be matching the raised end of the CPU socket, and the longer leg of the clip should be matched to the stepped end of the heatsink, so its pressure point is over the CPU core.

Yeah, that's also true...btw it's a Volcano 7 not 7+ .... apparently there's a difference.

those temps are normal for a stock hs/f
hell, im running a 2100+ tbred b @ 200*10.5 1.75v and my temps are 50-52C
with a SLK-900a and a panaflo m1a.

Hehe, my 2800 Barton runs around 60c under full load. Your temps are normal.

Well, my XP2400 runs 40C, while folding proteins. Of course, it used to run a little over 50C, before I put an 80mm fan in the side panel.

Okay, then I feel better now...I was hearing about a lot of people running at around 34 - 45C and I said: "what the hell". I guess mine are just normal, then.

ha ha..............my 2200xp tbred running at 2000 mhz runs 24 idles and 32 under load..........

Well, XP2400's aren't Bartons, therefore they run hotter... BTW, I forgot to mention that temp was at 200 fsb.
