This one is a bit of a stretch for most people, but it's still a pretty good deal :awe:

Here's a photo of a small dome home with a garage.

Overview:

Dome Homes are a pretty cool way to build a home. They are strong, quiet, energy-efficient, low-maintenance, and fairly easy to build. They are a non-standard design and are not for everyone, but if you're interested in building (either DIY or through a contractor), you can get a lot of nice benefits. These dome homes are from American Ingenuity, Inc. and are a geodesic design made from prefab triangle EPS panels and come in 22' to 60' designs (521 sq feet to 5,180 sq feet). The standard design is advertised to withstand 250mph winds, 90-pound snow loads, and 9.0 earthquakes. They've gone through Katrina, Andrew, earthquakes, etc. with good results.

The downsides are SAP (spouse acceptance factor), weird layout inside, and difficulty selling it down the road (not many people want to live in a bubble). But I think these would be cool for a vacation home/second home/cabin if you're not interested in them as a primary residence. Bonus points for zombie apocalypse/survivalist/end-of-days scenarios  In my research, these are the best domes I've come across. My neighbor has a dome for his garage and it's pretty cool. The sale starts at just above $10k, so it's a pretty affordable way to start building something neat!

I looked into building one of these years ago, they are pretty cool. Back then I didn't have land...but now I do. I might look into this again.

so she'll think u r gay and give u a divorce?

these guys are down the road a bit from me... wandered by on the scooter to see what their place is like, not too impressive... you'll definitely want to do due diligence... have been curious about domes for a long time... just never could quite bring myself to make the jump to completely quirky...

Yeah, those are totally cool and I really don't mind the weirdness factor, the ones with balconies and sunrooms are really awesome, if I had tons of money and didn't have to work another day in my life I would totally build one myself somewhere in the mountains... sigh... *slaps myself* stop dreaming and go back to work...
