i heard great things about this movie so i rented it 2 years ago. i only thought it was ok. it moved along very slowly and the ending other than the fact that it almost leaves it to you to decide if he went to jail or not, was llackluster at best.
for the most part though everythign points to the fact that he DID go to jail

Yes. He definitely went to jail. Also, the monologue in front of the bathroom mirror was the best!

Initially they were going to cast Tobey MacGuire in the part of Ed Norton. They definitely made the right choice.

It's been a while since I saw it, but I thought it was suggested that he didn't go to jail? Didn't they show his life that happened because he avoided jail?

I don't remember much about it, but I'd like to hear what happened that suggested he did go to jail.

Very subtle, especially if you don't live in New York..but from Wikipedia:

The film cuts back to the present, with Monty with all the cuts and bruises on his face, seemingly asleep. They've just past the George Washington Bridge. The dream is over, and Monty's on his way to prison.

They are on the way to jail, but I don't know if you can say for sure he actually does. Chances are he does, but who knows.
