25ms LCDs decent for gaming?

I'm looking at getting this monitor very soon. The price is decent and I like the 19 inches.

Can a 25ms LCD be decent enough for gaming? The seller said he didn't notice any ghosting on Doom 3. I had a Dell 1800FP which I assume had a 25ms monitor and it worked well for me.

I can't find ANY reviews of the monitor, so that stinks. Just going to have to go by what the seller says.

Thanks,
Travis

Can't tell whether it ghosts based on response time alone. I have used several samsungs, all 25ms, and the 19inchers all ghosted while the 17inchers didn't to my eyes anyway.

it all depends on the panel. the method used to test response time is flawed. an 8ms panel, benq's in particular, doesnt consistently run at 8ms or average at that. according to some tests, i believe noted from the inquirer, explained that hte 8ms panel oftens hits the 25 to even 30ms mark. the fact taht it is noted 8ms means only that it CAN hit 8ms. it's not true to all panels, but point is that the method used to measure response time is flawed. i know for a fact taht samsung's 213T panel is 25ms, but their 243T, using the new, higher quality panel whcih is still 25ms, but performs better then many 16ms panels.

i have an older generation dell lcd monitor that is 25ms, and i notice only a little ghosting while gameplay. i have also seen some 25ms panels taht are hooorrible. but ya, i havent heard of that brand before, so i have no clue what panel it uses. anyways, i wouldnt totally trust the seller on what he says since all he cares for is getting your money.

just my 2 cents. 🙂

I agree it depends on the panel and your eye,I use a 25ms Samsung 191T for some gaming now and then and I can see some slight ghosting in games like TFC,CS etc but not enough to bother me.

Btw will the seller let you return it if you`re not happy?...If so you can try it out.

oddly enough I notice ghosting more when scrolling a high contrast website on a browser than I do in gaming. In gaming i notice no hosting at all. 15" 25ms NEC 1545V LCD.

No....A friend of mine had a 19t something samsung that was 25ms ....

even in rts games it ghosted.

but I think it was connected analog.

I have a 191t, it does ghost a little. Not anything close to horrible, I've played through most everything that has come out in the last year on it and been satisfied. Like everyone else said, you would probably have to try the panel out first hand to be 100% sure.

i have a Samsung SyncMaster 213T

its pretty good for gaming as i use my system mainly for games and multimedia.

the real great thing about it, is that its the ONLY LCD i have seen up to date widely available in retail that supports 1600 x 1200 resolution.

as far as games go, heres the funny thing. some games ghost, real bad, others dont ghost at all.

here is what i and my friends and family used it for, that i have seen, and wetehr it ghosts or not:

lotta ghosting:

DOAC (plat edition, all expansions) <<<<<< king of ghosting.
EQ Live (all expansions) ghosts a lot as well

some ghosting but very little, not making too much difference:

WoW stress test beta
KotOR
Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy
SWG

no ghosting whatsoever:

UT 2004
Doom 3
BF Viet Nam
Guild Wars preview

thats what is currently installed and being played on this comp. in addition, i should point out i get perfect DVD playback and i do photo/album editing, both of which are working absolutely great.

my guess is that the older the game is, or more to the point its graphics engine, the more ghosting this monitor displays. the newer the game, the less ghosting there is and it actually performs ideal on the newest stuff. i dont know why that is, but these are the results i am geting.

the official Samsung site doesnt list all the detailed specs for this monitor, so it kinda sucks, but i got the name down exacly so you cna find out more about it if you like, once again, Samsung SyncMaster 213T and its the only LCD that has 1600x1200 rez.

i should add i run this with Radeon 9800 Pro /w 256 megs, gig of corsair twin-x ram, p4 @ 3.2 gigs siting on Gigabyte 8Ik1100 board.
