25G max, 20G preferable. New or used. Must be coupe body style. Should be fairly reliable and preferably not difficult to find. What would you buy? Right now I am thinking 350Z.

Well here's what I would look at within those boundaries:

RX-8
350Z/G35
Acura NSX

The first two should be ok, as they should be pretty recent, and you should be able to get a few good years (or more hopefully) of trouble free operation (provided you do proper maintenance and don't thrash it too badly). The last one you'll have to find a several years old one (hmm, I guess it doesn't meet your not difficult to find, but meh), but it should be in pretty good shape. Perhaps I'm buying too much into the marketing, but it is a Honda after all, and so with the probably pretty low miles most NSXes should have it would be a pretty safe bet that you'd have not too many problems with it.

If you can find a nice RX-7 or Supra (good mechanically for the most part, little/no body damage, etc.), then you could throw in a nice new drive train (transmission and engine) that should last you a pretty good while and fit within your budget.

an mkiv supra turbo with significantly less than 100K miles for under 25G is impossible to find. :(

Also my research tells me that turbo RX-7s are money pits to keep running.

Yup, 3rd get RX-7s live in a delicate balance. Briliant engine design, and a blast to drive they are, however, rolling grenades.

Hmm, well that sucks. I kinda figured the RX-7s weren't the most reliable.

It'd be pretty hard to find an NSX for under 25 as well. I was thinking 35 for some reason.

Hmm, I wonder what Vette's you might be able to snag for that price. Crap, you're looing for a Japanese so thats no good.

Vette is ok, but lower mileage ones cost over 25G. Below 25G mileage generally approaching 100K miles.

Also I had a coworker who owned a C5 vette and he said the car had a lot of problems. OTOH, I have many coworkers with 350Zs/G35s and they are sound.

Yeah, I wasn't sure how reliable the Vette was. Yeah I don't think I'd want a Vette approaching 100K if I wanted to keep it for a few years.

There's quite a few cars in that price range that I like, and I certainly wouldn't have a problem with a 350Z or G35. However you might feel a little bummed if a bunch of people you know own one (I know some people like to have something different than the others).

Toyota Celica GT-S (GT is alright but the 6th gear of the GT-S is awesome), strap on a turbo, muffler, and body kit. you can get it for 25g's

There is nothing brilliant about the engine design. It's efficiency is very low, and so is the reliability. That light, aerodynamic car gets about the same gas mileage as a heavy, gas guzzling SUV with the aerodynamics of a brick.

My friend's 2nd gen got about 16 mpg, and his friend's 3rd gen got about the same.

You could say it's "neat" or "a novelty", but definitely not "brilliant".

Coupe requirement kills anything that isn't:

a) a 350z or G35c
b) ghastly underpowered (civic, celica, RX-8)
c) less than 10 years old (Supra, RX-7)

Besides the 350z the only coupes you are going to find with more cylinders than wheels aren't put out by a Japanese brand.

lol, I remember there was a poster who'd bring up the Crown Vic in any car thread, whether it was about luxury cars, economy cars, or sports cars. He thought Crown Vics were the best cars ever produced. Was that you?

I have a 2005 350Z Enthusiast w/ 4000 miles for sale!

But I'm in Michigan :(

If I were you I'd go for the 350Z, it's an awesome car for what you pay for it. If I dont have other priorities now I'd keep the car for sure, I absolutely love it

i know the celica is weak. his budget is $25k so i said he can strap on a turbo and a muffler. while he's at it, he could add a cool air intake system from AEM. it adds 17hp and 15.7 or something like that in torque. all that'll put it at 300hp, more or less.
