256mb pc2100 DDR Value ram $43

How much of a difference will buying "value ram" over the more pricey name brands make. Do you think I can get a way with it on a 1800XP, k7s5a, 40gb 7200, geforce 3ti200, 16xdvd, 16xcdrw. I appriciate your help, cause I need it BAD.

i wouldn't recommend going with value on ram. it's a critical part of the system and i'd pay extra for quality. i'd recommend getting crucial or kingsmax. my 2 cents.....

I'd say look at the value of the components in your system and what you're trying to achieve; your component list would appear to fairly decent for a gaming rig or any other, so why skimp to save a very few bucks on cheap ram?!? 😕

If you eventually decided to try any overclocking, you're gonna want the better quality ram anyway, and even if you don't OC, having ram that might not be up to the task is just gonna make the rest of your system look and perform lousy.. why hassle with that? 😉

When you say "value" RAM...are you refering to Kingston's line of "Value RAM" or "generic" RAM (i.e., no name brand)?

When I SDRAM was cheap and popular, I used mostly generic RAM and didn't have much trouble with them.

Right now, I'm using Crucial PC2100 "Value RAM" and I'm not impressed. Can't even get CL2 at 133Mhz with 100% stability.

I have 1 stick of Kingston Value DDR w/ Nanya Chips, Runs 133@ 2-2-2-5 nicely on my 1.6a o'c system.

IMO, anything that says "Value" is something to avoid. I like to save money as much as the next guy, but memory is not a component to go cheap on.

Well, I went out and bought some Centron Electronics DDR266 Ram from circuit city. Is that a respectable brand or do I need to return it and go for something else?
