Incompatible Chipset:

Intel 430 VX, TX, 440 LX, BX, i810, i815, i820 Chipsets.
VIA Apollo, ALi etc.

Not compatible with the above chipsets? Hmmm....maybe they mean Not tested...not guaranteed....

Pretty sure the stuff would run on my Abit BX6r2 board (BX Chipset).

Hmmm....

Look at what chipsets it is/is not compatable with.

"Incompatible Chipset:

Intel 430 VX, TX, 440 LX, BX, i810, i815, i820 Chipsets.
VIA Apollo, ALi etc. "

Doesn't look as though it likes Intel. It it worth the gamble??

I bought some a while ago from this very place (at $234 mind you) and in my Abit ABP6 it "worked" but only registred as 128MB. In my ASUS PV4X it works n/p. Registering as the full 256MB

Hmmmm, JCShopper at Reseller Ratings gets HIGH marks (6.0 out of 7.0)Plus they have a compatibility chart (AMD/VIA boards are listed.) That's Good.

But shipping is $10.55 (UPS Ground). So they're OBVIOUSLY recouping some dough in the back end. That's Bad.

Specs at JCShopper says CAS-2, but if you go to the FAQ at SyncMaxs' site (http://www.syncmax.com/FAQ.htm) it says 256mb modules are CAS-3! That's Bad.

You've got to pay to ship defective parts back. That's Bad.

Still, $190.54 for 256mb PC133...That's Good.

Personally though, I still think the site is a little 'sketchy'. I've had plenty enough dealings with 'sketchy'. Good luck to anyone else though, it's likely a good deal.

Has anyone noticed that the only DIMM modules that are incompatible with the various Intel chipsets are 256MB and up in density? I did some research and came up with the reason for this. Basically, the 256MB DIMMs that are incompatible use higher density 256Mbit components. Higher density means lower cost, but it also means not being compatible with all of my computers (Abit BX133-RAID, Asus P3B-F, Abit BM6, two Shuttle HOT-661P). Damn!

Anyone who wants more information can go here.

Thanks Lunchboxah!

Just ordered! I called to double check they were in stock and he said yes (only because 3 times this week I ordered internet specials when they showed in stock and sooner or later I get the ole CSR email that they are no longer in stock).

Is it my imagination but is there a price drop going on with ram?

I am a little apprehensive about ordering again from JCShopper. I ordered a Duron 700 about 1 1/2 weeks ago and still haven't got, though it was supposedly shipped almost a week ago. There phone support is quick and helpful, however there email responses times are lengthy and somewhat unprofessional. Here's a copy of my order verification email:

"We have received your order and in process now. It is likely go out today or tomorrow.

TF"

A remedial grammer course may be necessary for this gump....

Still, this memory is a bangin deal, even if it isn't CAS-2 (which is hard to come by in 256 modules anyway).

Ah... yeah... they really don't speak English all that well and the charge will actually show up on your CC as somethign else. I think it was a furniture place or something really odd. I actually called my AMEX to see wtf the charge was, got the tele # of the place and they explaiend that they get a lot fo calls wondering the same thing.

More interesting/possibly bad news:

According to JCShopper site...
Model# ??????
Assembly: 32x64
Chip type: 16chips (High density)
CAS Latency: CAS2, 8ns or 7.5ns (PC133)

According to the SyncMax Website (www.syncmax.com), they manufacture two 256mb modules
Model# S256M16038
Assembly: 32M x 64 (256Mb)
Chip type: 16mx8
PC 66/100
CAS Latency: CAS-2 and CAS-3 at 100mhz and 6ns

Model# S256M16044
Assembly: 32M x 64 (256mb)
Chip type: 32mx4
PC 66/100/133
CAS latency: CAS-2 (6ns) at 100mhz and CAS-3 (6 and 5.4ns) at 100/133mhz

I don't know what model # the module on JCShopper's site is, but neither one on SyncMax's site seems to match up with JC's listing. I'm holding off on this one until I speak to JCShopper on the phone.

Spoke to JCShopper representative, he assured me that this is pc133 ram as indicated on Syncmax.com

So, I ordered it. I'll let you all know how it is when it arrives Thanksgiving Morning.

you guys do realize 8ns is pc100, and that 7.5 or 7 is usually considered to be pc133.

I picked up a 128mb stick of this NEC/Syncmax memory 2 days ago. Runs fine at 133 at CAS3... switch it to CAS2 and only 64mb is recognized. Sorta like what happened to Homerboy. I'm using an Abit VT6x4 with the VIA chipset.. so far so good. Works better than the junky Kingston ValueRam I had in it.

dc,
I'm kinda ignorant with memory but when this stuff comes in, can I tell on the chips what speed they are whether 8 or 7.5?
Is that the standard for rating pc133 or pc100 (the speed of the chips) or are there other factors that determine 133 or 100?

I guess the big question is does synchmax call this particular ram pc133 and use the same standards as everyone else in determining that?

any advice appreciated!

you can tell if it's 7.5 or 8 by reading the code on the mem chips when you get it.

the official standard for pc100 is 8ns, there is no official standard for pc133, but 7.5 is usually accepted to be pc133.

Hi,
I bought 3 sticks of this stuff from JCShopper, I got it pretty quick, no hassles. It does not work as CAS2 on my board, only cas3. I have the Abit KT7-RAID. I do have all the other memory options turned on in the bios, such as 4 way interleave and enhanced memory etc. But for the price CAS3 ain't bad. I would recommend these for cheap memory that does the job.

Do you guys think it will work out all right? I mean they have a list of stuff that you "have" to do if it doesnt work. I mean what can go wrong with ram right?
