First, thanks in advance for the help.
Second, I did a search and found similar problems, but not an exact match.

I currently have one 128M stick of PC100. I just put in a stick of 256MB PC133 memory into my computer. During POST and in the Windows 98 System Properties only shows 128M. I tried putting the 256M stick in the first slot...same result, only 128M recognized. I then removed the 128M stick and left the 256M stick in...same result, only 128M recognized.

I then tried some of the WIN 98 memory diagnostics...no success.
I checked the CMOS...switched back and forth between CAS2 and CAS3...no luck.

A co-worker of mine says that some of the older Intel MB's have trouble with DIMMS larger than 128M. Is this true? I also read in these forums that the 440BX chipset may have trouble with PC133 memory.

My M'board documentation says that it supports normal SDRAM or PC100 SDRAM modules in sizes 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, or 256MB.

Would some kind soul clue me in?
Thanks.

My system: PIII 450, Shuttle Spacewalker Hot-661/P Motherboard using Intel 440BX Chipset

what kind of ram is it? if it is high density, it won't be supported by the BX chipset.

poolshark,

How do I know the 128M limit is set? If you're talking about the Maxphyspage setting, well, I don't have that line in my system.ini file.

I ran msconfig and did a selective startup without processing the System.ini. It didn't help. Windows Help aslo suggested I disable some of the hardware profiles; that didn't help either.

zzzz,
How do I know if it's high density? The package says 32X64-133 OEM 8/16 chip, Unbufferred with EPROM.
