256MB PC-133 CL2 $34+$10 shipping. (Hot?)

Edgemicro.com has CAS 2, 256MB PC-133 chips for $33.90 which would be a terrific deal (IMHO) except for the $9.70 shipping to CA. The also claim to use memory from reputable manufacturers. Resaler rating of 4.5. Looks like a good deal to me. (Notice the "?" by the hot, it comes with being a junior member.) What ya think?

Kingofcomputer, that deal is ok but those are CL3 chips and not CL2 chips. They would also cost more after shipping (if Amazon charges shipping that is). What got my attention about EdgeMicro's RAM is that they say it is from companies like Micron, Samsung, Hyundai, and NEC, which are big names that instill some level of trust, for me, in their product.

Has anyone here purchased RAM (or anything else) from edgemicro? If so, what was your experience like.

that viking uses infineon chips, same as mushkin rev 1.5, rev 2.0, rev 3.0, which can sure run at cas2 and very possible at over 150.
infineon chip is 0.17 process, which runs cooler than all other 0.18 process chip.

You really believe small pricewatch vendor will give you big brand name chips as they can't even state what chips for sure at the product description? Do you think they'll give you good quality pcb, good quality soldering process, and precise spd setting memory? There is still chance you could get good memory, but why risk that for just saving few bucks?

Hmm...you have some good points. Right now I have crucial memory in my machine...I do see the value in buying from bigger venders. Do you own any of the viking memory that you wrote about? If you do what are you running it at?

Electric Amish: Crucial is great except when you get ripped buy CA sales tax (7.75%) like I do. Tacoma99: Could you give me a link to the Micron memory that you refer to?

yes, I bought one viking from amazon a month before (that time the price was 63.99 - coupon, free shipping for this ram)
it's very good, viking has written its name and part number into the spd,
all spd checksum are ok reported by ctspd. (expect to get no manufacturer name, checksum error from no brand memory, even mushkin basic.)
tried to run at cas2, no problem.
over 100 here in southern ca, the ram is still running quite under warm.

I'm not looking for cas2 memory at first.
cas2 just gives you 1 clock faster at the initial data burst,
after the initial first clock, cas3 and cas2 has no difference.
1 clock at pc133 is just few ns, that's nano second, overall performance difference is too tiny to notice.
I don't care if it's cas3, I only care the quality and performance.
good cas3 memory could be even faster than bad cas2 memory.

if the price is same, of course get cas2, but you really believe small pricewatch vendor will give you real cas2 memory as they even can't state what ram chip it's?

for ~$50 shipped, either get
Crucial cas2 or
Viking cas3, sure can run at cas2, 0.17 process - cooler.
don't ever think about those unsure $40-50 shipped memory.

As for pricewatch venders, buy.com and most big companies are listed there. The memory that I listed is from Neutron and is name brand &quot;TRUE CAS2 @166 and CAS3 @ 183&quot;. They have been selling these for months, with hundreds of users reporting great results. Check out the motherboard forums that deal with high end overclocking, like Iwills. 1 thread has over 185 posts about how great this stuff is. The Tonicom sticks are as popular at Neutron as the 1GHz and 1.2GHz T-Birds are at Newegg. Great product from a great vender at a great price. Makes Viking and Kingston Value ram look like generic in comparison... Many are now replacing there Crucial and Micron ram with these Tonicom sticks, as they overclock much higher. Check the Iwill forums. But, some users have started to report shortages. Seems as word of this great memory is getting out, it is all getting snapped up quick. No more 256meg chips can be found.

It doesn't matter what shipping costs as long as the total delivered price is great.
$3.00 for memory + $27 shipping is the same as $27 for memory and $3.00 shipping.
