256mb 3850

I just picked up an HD3850 on ebay with 256mb of memory. Afterwards, I noticed that most models come with 512mb. I don't have a huge monitor; it's an old 17" Dell LCD. I usually play games at 1280x1024. Will it having half the memory impact performance too much at that resolution?

Depends on what you play, but generally speaking, you may be limited to say, Medium detail settings instead of High. A 256MB card will also have more difficulty going forward, as new games coming out this year assume that serious players have 512MB by now.

I currently have a 512mb X1800XT and more than anything, I was looking to get out from under that power hungry monster. I generally play Supreme Commander, UT3, and CS:S.
