256MB @ 157 3-3-3 or 128MB @ 157 3-2-2?

I found a stick of Micron PC133 memory that runs at 157MHz 3-2-2 alone to go along with my 128MB of HSDRAM that also runs at 157MHz 3-2-2 alone. The problem I have is if I try to run them both at this speed I have to set all of the timings to 3 (3-3-3). I also have to do something else. I have to have the HSDRAM in DIMM slot1 and the Micron memory in DIMM slot4 (furthest apart from each other) in order to maintain stability. When I run a single 128MB stick, I can place the memory in any DIMM slot.

The i815E is a bi*ch to run with two double sided memory sticks at high bus speeds. Is it worth the trouble of having 256MB in my i815 board with all of the things I have to do to get it stable, or should I be happy with my worry free 128MB of HSDRAM? I haven't seen any need to go higher than 128MB of RAM, but I've been running with 128MB for a long time (since my K6-2 300) and wanted to try running with more.

Have you tried any lower buss speed to get 3-2-2 ??? If you can run some benchmarks to test the better settings... Also move the memory all around to get the results you want... BTW I have to push my clock speed up 150mhz @3-3-3 to equal the memory benchmark @3-2-2 a little food for thought...

I've given up on trying to get 256MB stable in my i815 board. I'm just going to stay at 128MB. I didn't notice an improvement with 256MB. I actually saw a decrease in performance with the higher memory timings. I'm running Windows ME, so 128MB is enough for that.

I have a 815E pro, and have had a horrible time getting an overclock really stable on Win ME.
Moved to 2k.
And its been a pleasure ever since.

It all depends on what you're doing with the extra ram. If you're just playing games and surfing the net, then 128 should hold you well.

I play Unreal Tourney all the time. I also have about 6-10 IE windows and a few explorer windows opened all the time, running my newsgroup browser, photoshop and dreamweaver. In this situation, I'm constantly running out of RAM, even with 384 megs. Explorer and memory leaks usually suck my memory dry. Then, I have to use Ramfree 128 to free some again....

Of course, I run mines at 133 at 2-2-2. But even if I had to run it at 3-3-3, I'd rather go with 256 at 3-3-3 rather than 128 at 2-2-2.
