2560x1600 vs. 1920x1200

Currently I have a 20" Dell (1680x1050) and a 42" LCD TV in my room. I am moving towards a front projector system in my room for my PS3 and movie watching. But I am going to get rid of the 20" and move for a bigger screen, so that I can watch regular SDTV directv on the monitor instead of the projector.

I was set on a 30" dell since I sit pretty far back when watching TV, about 13 feet (room is 13x18). So the 20" isn't going to cut it. I was also amazed at the high res of the 30". But buying through the outlet at dell, my cost to the door would be roughly $1200 (with shipping, tax and $25 3 year warranty).

Then I find an Acer that intrigues me, the AL2616Wd. It's 26", and it's 1920x1200 res. If I buy this it's about $800 to the door. So my dilemna is do I go for the Acer and save $400, or just go for the Dell. I won't do any work so I probably don't need the extra resolution, so I sway towards the Acer. But the "wow" factor on a 2560x1600 res is killing me! But is that wow factor worth $400 is what I'm asking any of you. Probably not but I'm easily swayed!

Just my opinion, but if you're going for size and don't need that extra resolution, this Westinghouse might come in very handy.

You know what I think about your opinion ... I totally fracking forgot about the 1080p tvs! You just solved a bunch of my problems lol! One of them being having to run my directv through my computer via a tv tuner card. You just quite possibly saved me $200 haha. Thanks, now my search will include these 1080p which isn't much off of 1200 you are right. The only issue is being how big it is I still want to use this as a monitor

Lots of people on this forum have this tv and use it as a monitor. Seems to be an extremely popular choice.

It's no problem sitting close to it? Also I have to consider that I need to project roughly 100" picture right above it. Man Decisions decisions!

EDIT: Damn dude I just clicked your link that thing looks so freaking big! That setup looks awesome btw, but I think it just might be a little overkill since I still will have the projector. The only draw is being able to hook up my directv tivo directly to it. I'll guess I'll decide between this and an Acer. Thanks yall.

I've mentioned this before but I just don't understand how you can use the Westinghouse 37/42 1080p LCD as a desktop monitor when you are sitting 3-5 feet from it, the pixels look huge and text is ugly. It would be ok for games I guess (I've only seen it in desktop, and I found the text to be really poor compared to a 2407 or Apple 23in at 1920x1200).
