A friend just picked up a Samsung 305T 30 inch monitor which has a native resolution of 2560x1600. We tossed in a Sapphire X1650 Pro PCI-Express video card as its specifications showed that it would run at 2560x1600. Simply put, we can get the 305t to turn on and show a screen but only at 1280x800 screen resolution and when we try 2560x1600 the 305t monitor just starts cycling through colors.

His operating system: Vista Ultimate (64-bit)
Video Card: Sapphire X1650 Pro PCI-Express
Monitor: 305T 30 inch (2560x1600)

Suggestions or what can we do from here? Is it possible that the card, although specified saying its maximum resolution it can run is 2560x1600 simply not be capable of doing it?

Possibly an issue with Vista or some patch that needs to be downloaded for such a high screen resolution?

Any recommendations are greatly appreciated! I think we would rather exhaust resources with the current configuration than start throwing in different video cards.

Yah. You need both a dual-link video card and a dual-link cable in order to get 2560x1600.

On my HP 3065LP, I can hook up a non dual-link video card using a dual-link cable. (But not the other way around) It only gives 1600x1200 but it does work that way.

Yeah, you need dual link DVI cable...

Same thing happens with my Dell...i get only 1280x800 if i use wrong cable or card w/o dual link support.
