2560x1600 is making my X1900XTX scream

Is there a bolt on HSF that is quieter than the stock dust buster NOS(!) under high GPU load? I guess if I was into flight sims it would feel more realistic - particularly flying prop planes. :laugh:

I belive the original design is good that it rejects the heat outside of the chassis but it's what 95 dBA? 😉
 
Zalman VF900-Cu. One of the better if not best as it is not card specific.

I have seen lots of reviews for the vf900 and the results are all over the board, I was going to buy one but I am getting the impression that it may be a crap shoot as to whether or not it is going to be efficient. I think that there might be a manufacturing issue as some results are showing very good results and some are reflecting horrible results, oh well if you get one post back with your results.



 
It would be preferable to have the heat rejected like the reference design. Perhaps the PWM driver could be reprogrammed to allow for less rotor whine? 😉

Get an NV Silencer Rev. 3 like I said.

It has the heat ejected out of the case. (rejected!? 🙁)

Yes as in removed from the case.

It's amazing how much heat that GPU is producing. :Q

EDIT: Oh and BTW does that "silencer" thing bolt right on to the X1900XTX out of the box? There's no way I'm taking a pair of Klenks (aviation snips) to any brackets. No freaking way! 😛
 
The Zalman puts all the heat in the case though. I guess it's not that big of a deal for me. (using Stacker 830) The idea of getting the heat OUT of the case is good though.

Zip Tie a CPU heatsink on it. Seriously, it worked great for me. 😛

Haha there would be no PCI slots left if I did that. May even have to cut a hole in the bottom of the case to let it stick out! :Q

Same here. Very quiet and usually loads are around 65. One exception is Oblivion. Using ATITool temps get into low 80s with fan at 75% and really quiet

as with any coolers, the performance depends on how well it was installed, hence lots of variation in results because some people dont do a proper job.

and yeah i remember that guy on here, saying his VF900 was not doing the job.....and to me it was a strong possibilty that the heat pipes on his simply had nothing in them lol!

scary, and sadly i dont think the VF700 is going to be too capable of cooling an X1900
 
For $50 Thermalright V1/ V1-Ultra is better than VF900 cooler. Proof
for $26 at SVC VF700 ALCU is a cheap alternative.

Sytrin is excellent as well and is > VF900 which is simply a poor overpriced product. Even if the heat is trapped inside the case it wont raise the case temperature or cpu by more than 3-4*C.
 
VF900, Accelero 2 or NV Silencer 5 rev 3 are all great choices to quiet it down and drop the temps. Even a VF700 will give you similar temps (maybe a bit better even) and MUCH quieter operation. The stock cooling on the X1800 and X1900 series is crap IMO; way too noisy to be useable.

The KuFormula VF1 is also a great cooler.

This is OT, but I have a Tuniq Tower as well. I *love* it; it's probably the best heatsink I've ever used. 🙂

 
Also... the VF700 does NOT have enough cooling capacity to handle the x1900xtx unless you have really good case cooling. I've read more than a few reports saying that the card's temps skyrocketed into the 90s, and only one or two reports of it being fine. If you go the zalman route, definitely get the VF900.

I can believe it. The air coming out of that backplate feels hot - like hair dryer hot. Well if my hairdryer breaks down I suppose I could fire up rthdribl and sit in front of the back of the box. 😉

RE: Tuniq Tower - yes very good performance even with the potentiometer all the way down to min. Makes the AMD cooler look like a candy cane. 😉
